Following his departure from Maserati MSG Racing after the past season, Jaguar TCS Racing has now announced the signing of Stoffel Vandoorne as simulator and reserve driver for Season 12 of the Formula E World Championship. At the same time, the team also confirmed the retention of Tom Dillmann, who will also take on the role of reserve driver.
After a year with Maserati, Vandoorne is now joining the British team as a reserve driver after all the cockpits for the 2025-26 Formula E World Championship have already been allocated. With more than 100 race starts and four race wins under his belt, the Belgian has a wealth of experience. His greatest success in the electric series was winning the Drivers' World Championship title in the 2021-22 season with Mercedes-EQ.
In the Gen3 era, Vandoorne was unable to build on his world championship win. Two years at DS Penske were crowned with only a few successes, which never resulted in a win. He switched to Maserati for the 2024-25 season and made a name for himself again with a victory at the rainy Tokyo E-Prix, which he achieved thanks to a strategic trick. However, this remained his only victory for Maserati MSG Racing and his last to date.
We've been keeping one final secret...

Vandoorne: "A team I've long admired for its performance and professionalism"
"I'm thrilled to be joining Jaguar TCS Racing as reserve driver for the upcoming season. It's a team I've long admired for its performance and professionalism, and I'm excited to contribute to their continued success. I'm looking forward to supporting the team both on and off the track and helping push the Jaguar I‑Type 7 to its full potential," Vandoorne looks forward to his new role.
In addition to Vandoorne's signing, Jaguar also announced the retention of Tom Dillmann, who will also be a reserve driver. The Frenchman will be entering his sixth year with the team: "It's a real pleasure to be continuing with Jaguar TCS Racing for my sixth season. Over the years, I've seen the team grow into a true championship contender, and I'm proud to have played a part in that journey. There's a great energy heading into this season, and I'm looking forward to what we can achieve together," said Dillmann.

James: "His credentials speak for themselves"
Jaguar's new team principal Ian James also commented on the announcement: "We're proud to welcome Stoffel Vandoorne to Jaguar TCS Racing as our reserve driver for the upcoming season. Stoffel's credentials speak for themselves – a former Drivers' World Champion with over 100 race starts and a wealth of experience across seven seasons." James has already been team principal to Vandoorne at Mercedes-EQ and celebrated winning the world title with him.
"We're also glad to retain Tom Dillmann," continued James. "He has been a hugely valuable member of Jaguar TCS Racing for the past six years. His dedication and technical expertise have played a key role in our development, and we're grateful for his continued support as we prepare for Formula E's most exciting era of racing yet," he says in praise of Dillmann.
Whether and when we will see Vandoorne on the race track for his new team Jaguar TCS Racing, however, remains to be seen. It is very rare for a replacement driver to actually be used in the electric series.
