Formula E team world champion Jaguar took victory at the season opener in Sao Paulo thanks to Mitch Evans. But the bottom line is that the "big cat" is travelling to Jeddah (14/15 February) for the first "double-header" of the season with mixed feelings. In Saudi Arabia, the Brits want to attack again.
Third place in all three championship rankings - Jaguar could be in a worse position in the 2024/25 Formula E season! However, the British manufacturer has not quite been able to keep up with Porsche and Nissan so far. What's more, title contender Nick Cassidy still has no points to his name after two retirements.
This is set to change next weekend at the first E-Prix in Jeddah. "We have worked hard since Mexico and hopefully we can translate that into good results in Jeddah," says Cassidy. "I have fond memories of racing with Jaguar TCS Racing in Saudi Arabia, including my first win with the team. So it would be great to build on that."
Teammate Evans also wants to get back to the front after his recent accident. "The race in Mexico ended unfortunately for us, but since then we have regrouped as a team and our aim is to put in a strong performance in both races," says the New Zealander.
"Lots of opportunities to score lots of points"
His team principal, James Barclay, agrees: "There has been a lot to discuss and work on since the last race in Mexico City. Mitch and Nick have driven really well so far this season and will be concentrating on optimising the performance of the Jaguar I-Type 7."
The new circuit shall also play into Jaguar's hands - Formula E is racing on a shortened version of the Jeddah Formula 1 circuit for the first time: "Racing at new venues always presents new challenges that need to be overcome. But I am looking forward to getting out on track in Jeddah", explains Evans.
Barclay adds: "Racing on this new Formula E circuit is an exciting prospect for us. A double header means there are plenty of opportunities to score lots of points. The whole team is highly motivated to put in a strong performance in Jeddah."
Things will get underway on Thursday with the rookie practice and the first free practice session. The first race day is exceptionally on Friday, with the second race taking place on Saturday.
