After many years at the back of the Formula E field, Cupra Kiro suddenly has reason to be hopeful. Thanks to their new Porsche powertrains, the team has a significantly faster car in season 11 than last time. On top of that, team principal Alex Hui is confident with regard to his drivers.

In addition to rookie David Beckmann, Dan Ticktum is continuously driving for Kiro. The Briton has already gained several years of Formula E experience and has repeatedly provided some highlights, but has never been able to seriously fight for podiums due to his inferior cars. That could change this year.

"Since we announced Kiro Race Co's involvement in Formula E for season 11, we have been very open about our goals - we want to be consistently in the top 10 and redefine what it means to be a racing team," Hui said confidently. "Our driver line-up embodies this mission perfectly."

"In Dan - who has been called the best British driver outside of Formula 1 - we have an experienced, young athlete who not only wants to be the best, but also has the speed and ability to one day become world champion."

Ticktum: "The kind of environment I thrive in"

So far, however, the 2024/25 season has been rather disappointing for Kiro. Most recently in Mexico, Ticktum only finished 16th, while team-mate Beckmann did not finish. At the start of the season in Sao Paulo, the Brit scored four points in eighth place. The other two Porsche-powered teams are currently still some way ahead though.

"I realise that Kiro Race Co is hungry, ambitious and ready to make a mark in Formula E," says Ticktum. "And that is exactly the kind of environment I thrive in as a racing driver. Over the past few years, I have learnt first-hand that Formula E is unlike any other form of motorsport - the racing is relentless. In a category as wild as this, there are open opportunities in every single lap. I'm confident that we can translate this attitude into regular top 10 finishes."

Team principal Hui knows, however, that the upheaval in the team will take time: "There will be ups and downs, and we know that success will not come overnight. We are only at the beginning of a long journey, but we are determined to go down this path."

The next chance for a good result for Cupra Kiro is on 14 and 15 February in Jeddah. It remains to be seen when the team will eventually be able to fight for a podium result again.
