Dan Ticktum surprised in the final qualifying session of the 2025 Formula E season: the Brit secured the first pole position of his career in the "Duel of the Giants" against Nick Cassidy - it is also the first for the Kiro team since 2017. However, due to a demotion, Ticktum will only start in 6th position, while Cassidy will start Sunday's race from the front. Mitch Evans and Max Günther also impressed in London.

Group stage: Mahindra double lead in Group A, defect for Felix da Costa

Qualifying for the second race of the London double-header began with a setback for Porsche: Antonio Felix da Costa stopped in turn 1 with a technical defect, resulting in a red flag. The Portuguese driver suspected serious damage on the radio, possibly due to the drive shaft. Together with track marshals, he pushed his car back into the pits. His fastest lap time was cancelled as a  result of the red flag and he starts from 22nd position.

After the interruption, Edoardo Mortara moved to the top of the timesheet in Group A - closely followed by his Mahindra team-mate Nyck de Vries. The two Jaguar drivers Mitch Evans and Nick Cassidy completed the top four and thus also entered the duel phase. Fifth place was just not enough for Oliver Rowland, who missed out on a top 4 finish by around 30 thousandths of a second.

Group B: Ticktum with lap record - Beckmann disappointed

Dan Ticktum put in an impressive lap in the second qualifying group: The Brit took the lead with a new 300-kW lap record (1:08.447 minutes). He was followed by Max Günther, Pascal Wehrlein and Stoffel Vandoorne. Wehrlein had previously suffered a puncture due to a hard ride over the kerb and later had to resort to used practice tyres for the duel - a disadvantage, as was to become apparent.

David Beckmann fell short of expectations in the Kiro team: He was almost a second down on his team-mate Ticktum. Jean-Eric Vergne, Jake Hughes, Lucas di Grassi and Taylor Barnard also missed out on the next round.

Quarter-final: Cassidy benefits from Mortara mistake - Günther prevails

In the knockout duels, Mitch Evans and Nyck de Vries faced each other in the first race. Evans came out on top by a narrow margin of 38 thousandths of a second. Cassidy advanced to the semi-finals without a fight against Mortara: The Swiss driver had a technical problem with his brake-by-wire system when braking in turn 1 and slid into the run-off area.

In the duel between the Germans, Pascal Wehrlein met Max Günther – which went in favour of the DS Penske driver. Despite a strong final section, Wehrlein was unable to make up the deficit from the first two sectors. Dan Ticktum once again impressed against Stoffel Vandoorne with a strong first sector and a lead of almost a second.

Semi-final: Team tactics at Jaguar - Ticktum confidently advances to the final

In the first semi-final, Evans and Cassidy faced each other again - a rematch of the duel from the previous day. Although Evans closed the gap again in sector 2, he slowed down considerably in the final corner and allowed Cassidy to win, despite the latter making a mistake in turn 16. He later confirmed in a TV interview that he had done this for tactical reasons for Jaguar's team classification and Cassidy's chances of finishing runner-up in the championship.

In the second semi-final, Ticktum clearly prevailed against Günther. The Briton was ahead in all three sectors and confidently qualified for the final. Günther will nevertheless start from a promising second position.

Final: Ticktum takes first pole position - Cassidy takes grid position 1

Ticktum and Cassidy, two of the fastest drivers of the weekend, faced each other in the final. Ticktum dominated all three sectors and secured his first pole position in Formula E by more than two tenths of a second - a historic result for Kiro, who is back on pole for the first time since the 2017 Mexico City E-Prix.

Despite this, Cassidy will start the race from P1: Ticktum has to move down five positions due to a grid penalty from Saturday's race. Cassidy was self-critical on the radio: "I wasn't good enough - sorry to Mitch and the team", but at the same time praised the Jaguar team for their commitment.

The second race of the 2025 London E-Prix starts on Sunday at 18:04 (CEST) - it is the 16th and final race of the current Formula E season. In the overall standings, the title decisions for drivers and teams are still open. Excitement is guaranteed.
