As 2025 draws to a close, we take a look back at what happened this year. From brilliant debuts to sad farewells and dramatic title decisions - the past year provided us with some great stories that will live long in the memory. As we do every year, we at e-Formula.news summarise the most important stories of the year once again - today we start with places 10 to 6!
Place 10: Pit boost: introduction of the fast-charging pit stop as a "format game changer"
It took a long time, but the first Jeddah E-Prix on 14 February 2025 finally saw the day: for the first time in the history of Formula E, there was a race with pit stops during which the vehicles were recharged - around two years later than originally planned. Instead of Attack Charge, the feature was now called Pit Boost, and the activation of the Attack mode was also decoupled from it.
The technical problems were largely resolved, but there were still several difficulties with recharging over the course of the season, which was felt by the then Andretti driver Nico Müller in Monaco, among others.
The winner of the first race with fast-charging pit stops was Maximilian Günther in the DS Penske, who overtook the eventual world champion Oliver Rowland in the very last braking zone of the race.
9th place: Pepe Marti's rollover in Sao Paulo
The memory of the biggest accident of the year is still quite fresh: Formula E debutant Pepe Marti in the Cupra Kiro missed the start of a full-course yellw and crashed into Nico Müller (Porsche) and Antonio Felix da Costa (Jaguar) at high speed. The Spaniard took off and overturned spectacularly before his completely destroyed Gen3 Evo car came to a halt.
Luckily, Marti - just like Müller and Felix da Costa - was uninjured in the accident, but was handed a heavy penalty for the next race by the race stewards for this undoubtedly dangerous incident.
8th place: Porsche starts the Gen4 era with two factory teams
One of the big Formula E news stories of 2025, but one that won't be relevant until next year: Porsche will increase its line-up of works cars from two to four. The German sports car manufacturer has acquired a second team licence and will therefore be represented by two separate teams in the electric racing series from the 2026/27 season. This is extremely welcome news for Formula E, which, following the withdrawal of several major brands, has not only been able to announce that Porsche will remain in the racing series, but will even expand its activities.
A piece of news that was admittedly received with questioning glances in motorsport: Porsche had announced shortly beforehand that it was giving up its WEC involvement with the Porsche 963 for financial reasons and would only be entering the LMDh car in the North American IMSA racing series.
7th place: Antonio Felix da Costa moves from Porsche to Jaguar
Antonio Felix da Costa gave us a few stories last year: his growing dissatisfaction at Porsche, who refused him a parallel programme on the endurance track as long as he was a works driver in Formula E, and the dispute with his team-mate Pascal Wehrlein, which led to several awkward situations on the track - including in Shanghai and Berlin.
At the end of the season, it was clear that although Felix da Costa had made a decisive contribution to winning the Manufacturers' and Teams' World Championship titles, the Portuguese driver's chapter at Porsche had come to an end. He moved to Jaguar TCS Racing, where he and Mitch Evans form one of the strongest driver pairings in Formula E. But that's not all: his switch set off a chain reaction of further changes, like a game of dominoes.
6th place: Citroen confirms Formula E entry for the 2025/26 season with top driver duo
New line-up at Stellantis: instead of the Italian sports car brand Maserati, the Group is sending its Citroen brand into the electric series from the 2025/26 season. For Citroen, this means a new chapter in the brand's motorsport history after many successes in rallying and touring car racing.
The team's official presentation in Paris, where the two new drivers Nick Cassidy and Jean-Eric Vergne, who together have 22 Formula E race victories to their name, were unveiled alongside the car, was huge. In Citroen's very first race in Formula E, Cassidy made his first mark with second place in Sao Paulo. The first Citroen victory in Formula E seems to be only a matter of time.
This was the first part of our big review of the year. We'll continue with part 2 on Wednesday. Have we forgotten any important topics? Let us know in the comments!
