"Nice to be part of the title fight" - Mexico winner Oliver Rowland rises early into the circle of title favourites

Nissan driver Oliver Rowland celebrated a surprising victory in the second round of the Formula E season in Mexico City. The Briton thus announced his title ambitions early on in the season. After a few missed opportunities last year, everything is set to be different this time round.
With his win, Rowland is in second place in the drivers' world championship after two rounds of the season - as is Nissan in the manufacturers' championship, just one point behind Porsche. In 2024, Rowland came away empty-handed in the first two races and only later put himself in a promising position. This time, he is right there from the start.
"Even though it is still early days, it is nice to be part of the title fight," says Rowland. "With two wins and five more podiums, last season was great. However, we were not consistent enough at times. I missed the races in Portland and had a crash in London. We learnt from that"
"We will be in a good position in London"
For season 11, Rowland's aim is to make the most of the good days and - if he can't make the podium - at least achieve the best possible result. "If we can do that, I think we will be in a good position in London."
In fact, Rowland has a good chance of playing an even bigger role in the drivers' championship this year, as Nissan seems to have made a bigger step than Jaguar, for example. The Briton therefore has one of the best cars and is one of the strongest drivers anyway - both in qualifying and in the race.
The next Formula E races will take place in the form of a "double-header" in Jeddah (Saudi Arabia) on 14 and 15 February. Then Rowland - like all the other drivers - can expect a new challenge: the new Pit Boost will be used for the first time in Friday's race.
