It has been clear for a few days that Nico Müller will leave ABT Cupra at the end of the season. For the Swiss driver, this marks the end of an era, as he also contested five DTM seasons for ABT in addition to his two Formula E years. As he revealed to us in London, it is therefore difficult for him to say goodbye.

After an anticipated 29 races, Nico Müller will be retiring from ABT Cupra after Sunday's race. The Swiss driver is leaving the team for which he has scored 36 of 38 championship points so far this season. A heavy loss for the team from Kempten. But Müller did not take the decision lightly either.

"I will try to enjoy it all once again," Müller said exclusively to e-Formula.news. "I definitely have mixed feelings. I would say that the team has become a second family. It's been like that for many years, not only in Formula E, but also in DTM."

"And saying goodbye to that is anything but easy," he continues. A step that he certainly had to think about for some time. "It also took me a few days to come to terms with this decision. But now I'm OK with it and will try to enjoy it to the full again, work with the boys and girls and hopefully end this chapter on a positive note."

Aiming for points in London

With second place in his group, Müller once again shone in the first qualifying session. From 6th on the grid, a lot is possible on Saturday. "The aim is obviously to finish in the points, even if that could be more difficult. Due to the characteristics of the track, which on paper might not suit our car so well," he continued.

The Mahindra powertrain, which ABT Cupra is still using this season, was already able to prove that it is capable of this in London in 2023. "Last year, we also showed that it can work if we get everything perfectly right," Müller continued. "We finished eighth there. The key will be good qualifying, that's what we're focussing on. We'll do our best, but it won't be easy."

Nico Müller is in 14th place in the overall standings ahead of the final two races of the season and is by far the best-placed driver with a Mahindra powertrain. He is separated from Jake Hughes, who is in eleventh place, by just ten championship points.
