The next development in the Formula E driver market: Robin Frijns is leaving Envision Racing and will no longer compete for the British team in season 12. Envision Racing made the announcement on its website and social media channels on Thursday morning. Frijns' remaining in Formula E seems extremely unlikely with only 20 cars on the grid next season. Envision Racing intends to announce the Dutchman's successor shortly.
"Throughout Robin's six seasons with Envision Racing, he has delivered excellent results and cracking drives, and we have thoroughly enjoyed working with such a talented driver," says Team Principal Sylvain Filippi. "His two victories and numerous podiums stand-out, but also his raw speed and ability to deliver a lap when it mattered. He’s been a fierce competitor and a valued part of our team."
"Formula E is an ever-evolving championship, and for us, the time has come for an exciting new change," Filippi continues. "We look forward to announcing our Season 12 line-up shortly."
With 117 Formula E starts, Frijns is one of the most experienced drivers in the electric series - only six drivers have driven more races. He won twice, both times in the 2018/19 Gen2 debut season: Frijns was able to add his name to the Formula E winners' list in Paris and New York City.
Frijns only finished the 2024/25 season in 19th place in the overall standings. His best result in 16 races was 7th place in the first London race. He scored just 23 points in the entire season, significantly fewer than his team-mate Sebastien Buemi, who scored 84 points.
