Formula E announced on Tuesday morning that the pre-season tests for the first season with the new Gen4 cars will take place at the Circuite del Jarama in Madrid. This will be the first time since 2017 that the series plans to hold the tests at a circuit other than the Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Valencia.

For the second time in its history, Formula E will hold its pre-season tests with all teams in Madrid: Back in 2024, the racing series reacted to a storm in the Valencia region and moved the tests to the Spanish capital at short notice. The test drives were a complete success, so Formula E held its first Madrid E-Prix here on 21 March 2026.

The Circuito del Jarama is only the third racetrack where Formula E is planning its pre-season test drives: In the first three seasons, they raced at Donington Park in the United Kingdom before moving to Valencia for nine years. The venue is now being changed for the second time for the significantly more powerful Gen4 cars.

With 600 kW of power, permanent all-wheel drive, a top speed of more than 335 km/h and acceleration from 0 to 200 km/h in just 4.4 seconds, the new Formula E racing car is entering performance ranges that previously seemed unattainable for electric cars.

"We are delighted that the legendary Circuito de Madrid Jarama will be the venue for such a significant milestone in the history of Formula E," says Alberto Longo, co-founder and Chief Championship Officer of Formula E. "Madrid has already proven to be an excellent venue for our championship and there is no better place to premiere the new Gen4 race car ahead of the new season than a venue that combines racing tradition with a forward-thinking vision. This is more than just a test; it's the first time the world will see all our drivers, teams and manufacturers unveil their new Gen4 cars - the most powerful and technologically advanced electric race cars ever built, ahead of their racing debut.

"Building on the success of the very first Madrid E-Prix earlier this year, the Circuito de Madrid Jarama has proven to be an excellent venue for Formula E, combining a challenging track layout with great facilities," added Pablo Martino, FIA Director of Formula E. "As the championship enters the Gen4 era, these pre-season tests are a crucial opportunity for teams, manufacturers and drivers to familiarise themselves with the new car and prepare for the season ahead. We are proud to return to Madrid to celebrate another milestone in the history of Formula E as the revolutionary Gen4 car makes its collective debut on the track."
