The Porsche Formula E Team announced its driver pairing for the upcoming 2025-26 season on Monday afternoon: Alongside former world champion Pascal Wehrlein, Nico Müller will take the wheel for the team. The 33-year-old, who has already been a Porsche works driver for a year, is moving from Porsche customer team Andretti to the works team and will therefore succeed Antonio Felix da Costa, who had already been unveiled a few days earlier as the new signing at Jaguar TCS Racing.

A week ago, the works team of the German sports car manufacturer had already unveiled its optically revised Gen3 Evo racing car with a matt paint finish for the coming season. The team's new name was also announced at the same time: After six years as title sponsor, Swiss luxury watch manufacturer TAG Heuer has reorganised its sponsorship activities at Porsche and is now acting as global sponsor of Porsche Motorsport, meaning that the team will appear on the electric racing series' entry list as the Porsche Formula E Team in future.

It is the next logical step for Müller: After convincing performances in the first two Gen3 seasons with ABT Cupra, the Swiss driver was included in the Porsche works driver squad in August 2024 and moved to the Andretti Formula E team, where he drove a Porsche 99X Electric from the US customer team alongside Jake Dennis, the 2023 Formula E World Champion. In Jakarta, he celebrated what was supposed to be his first podium with the team, finished fourth due to the subsequent cancellation of a time penalty for Sebastien Buemi.

Pascal Wehrlein has been with the Porsche Formula E Team since August 2020 and is now in his sixth season with the team. During this time, the Sigmaringen native has won eight Formula E races, claimed eight pole positions and stood on the podium 17 times. Wehrlein has scored a total of 642 points as a Porsche works driver. He was crowned Formula E World Champion in 2023-24.

Müller: "I want to contribute to helping the team build on its recent successes"

"I'm incredibly proud of this step and thank Porsche Motorsport for their trust," explains Nico Müller. "My last season wasn't easy, but it was all the more instructive – that motivates me tremendously to repay the team's trust on the track. I'm looking forward to getting to know the team even more and I am convinced that Pascal and I will form a strong duo. I want to contribute as quickly as possible to helping the team build on its recent successes."

"Welcome to the team, Nico," says Florian Modlinger, Director Factory Motorsport Formula E at Porsche. "For us, he's the logical successor to Antonio and we've been observing his
abilities for some time, which is why he became a factory driver last year. It was also important for us to choose an experienced driver who could jump in the car as seamlessly as possible. Nico is already familiar with the 99X Electric from Andretti and has also done simulator work at Weissach. We want to challenge for all the titles, so we still need two drivers who have everything they need to score points as quickly and consistently as possible."

Laudenbach: "We have one of the strongest driver pairings"

"I am delighted that we continue to have one of the strongest driver pairings in the field," said Thomas Laudenbach, Vice President Porsche Motorsport. "“Pascal is, of
course, a well-known figure. Nico has been able to familiarise himself with the Porsche 99X Electric at Andretti during the previous season and is therefore well prepared when he gets into the factory car. Our goals for the upcoming season remain the same: We want to fight for all three titles at the finale in London next year."

Nico Müller will be on the race track for his new team for the first time in a fortnight' time: That's when the official pre-season test drives take place in Valencia. The 2025-26 Formula E World Championship season opener will follow on 6 December in Sao Paulo.
