Oliver Rowland still sees room for improvement for 2025: "We must bring more consistency to all elements"

Oliver Rowland was clearly one of the big positive surprises of the 2023/24 Formula E World Championship. The Nissan driver won his first two Formula E races since 2020 in Misano and London and finished fourth in the overall standings. For the coming season, he wants to improve his performance and results even further.

After a difficult season and a half with Mahindra Racing, Rowland returned to Nissan in 2024. With the Japanese team, he won two races, took two pole positions and finished on the podium seven times. By comparison, in his five previous seasons, he had only six podium finishes in total. This was despite the fact that the Brit missed the Portland E-Prix for health reasons and was therefore no longer able to take part in the championship battle at the London E-Prix. At the end of the 2024 season, he had 156 points - by far the Brit's best Formula E season.

"It was great to have some time off," said Rowland, describing the weeks since the season finale in July, which he ended with a home win in Sunday's race. "I've been training and working with the team, which has been very positive."

Despite an outstanding 2024 season, Rowland still sees untapped potential: "Last year we completed some races perfectly, so we need to maintain that progress this season and improve the little things to move up the order even further. For next season, we must try to bring more consistency to all elements of our race weekends - be it in qualifying or in car development."

New Gen3 Evo opportunity

He sees the general changes for the upcoming Formula E season as an opportunity to shake up the order in the field. This is because the revised Gen3 Evo cars will have all-wheel drive in qualifying and attack mode in future, which will change the conditions for all drivers. There will also be a new tyre compound from standard supplier Hankook and some revised body parts.

"The Gen3 Evo car will be a challenge for everyone on the grid," believes Rowland. "So it's an opportunity for us to maximise our performance and start the season at the front."

The 2024/25 season starts on 7 December in Sao Paulo. Around a month before that, all teams will take part in pre-season testing in Valencia (Spain). This is when Nissan will find out for the first time with some degree of reliability how good the new car is compared to the competition.
