Jaguar appoints Chadwick & Fornaroli - Complete driver overview for Formula E's 2025 rookie test in Berlin

Formula E will once again be organising a test day just for Formula E newcomers following the Berlin E-Prix this year. On 14 July 2025 between 9 am to 4 pm, up to 22 drivers will be allowed to drive the Gen3 Evo car for six hours. We will update this news ticker regularly when new drivers are announced.

[07.07. | 12:37] The line-up for the 2025 rookie test is complete! Jaguar TCS Racing confirmed Jamie Chadwick as a driver on Monday afternoon, after the "big cat" had already named the British driver as the test driver for Berlin in December. Jaguar will also field Leonardo Fornaroli. It will be the reigning Formula 3 champion's debut in an official Formula E session.

[04.07. | 11:00] The field for the rookie test continues to fill up: Lola Yamaha ABT has announced its two drivers, Hugh Barter and Alessandro Giusti. Barter, from Australia, is returning to the Formula E cockpit after competing in the rookie test for Maserati MSG Racing in 2023.

The 18-year-old Frenchman Giusti became champion of the French F4 in 2022, in 2024 he joined the Williams Racing Driver Academy. He is currently competing in the FIA Formula 3 Championship.

[03.07. | 12:00] Maserati MSG Racing has announced its driver duo for the rookie test: alongside Theo Pourchaire, who already competed in the rookie training for the team in Jeddah, Monegasque racing driver Arthur Leclerc will be getting behind the wheel for Maserati. The younger brother of Ferrari Formula 1 driver Charles Leclerc already competed in the rookie tests in Marrakesh in 2019 and 2020 for the predecessor team Venturi Racing.

[02.07. | 15:00] Cupra Kiro has also unveiled its second driver: The British-Swiss racing driver Callum Voisin will drive the team's second car in Berlin. Voissin won the GB3 championship in 2023 and currently competes in Formula 3.

[02.07. | 13:00] Mahindra Racing has now also announced its second driver for the rookie test in Berlin: Formula 2 driver Dino Beganovic will drive the M11Electro in the German capital. The Swede won the Formula Regional European Championship title in 2022 and has been a member of the Ferrari Driver Academy since 2020.

[01.07. | 12:00] Russian former Red Bull Formula 1 driver Daniil Kvyat will drive in Berlin for DS Penske again. The 110 times F1 starter already competed in the rookie training in Jeddah for the US team. In 2023, he also tested for Nio 333 (today Cupra Kiro) both in Berlin and Rome.

[01.07. | 11:00] Indian Formula 2 driver Kush Maini will be back in the Mahindra racing car in Berlin. Maini already tested for the team in Berlin last year and also drove the team's Gen3 Evo racing car during the rookie training at the Jeddah E-Prix. Back then, he set the fastest time in the "FP0" session.

Gabriele Mini will drive the second Nissan. The Italian is also an old acquaintance for the team, having already driven the rookie test in Berlin in 2024.

[26.06. | 16:00] Andretti has announced both drivers for the rookie test in Berlin: reserve driver Jak Crawford and Danish driver Frederik Vesti will be driving the team's two customer Porsche 99X Electric cars in the German capital. Crawford thus returns to the Andretti cockpit after his appearances at the rookie test in Berlin in 2024, where he finished second, and the rookie training in Jeddah, where he was the fastest driver with 300 kW of power.

While Crawford's involvement was obvious, Vesti is something of a surprise: last year, he tested for Mahindra Racing in Berlin. The multiple Formula 2 race winner currently drives an LMDh prototype for Cadillac in the IMSA series and is also a test and reserve driver for the Mercedes Formula 1 team.

[26.06. | 09:30] The driver pairing at Envision Racing is complete: simulator driver Johnathan Hoggard will drive the second green and blue Gen3 Evo car. The British driver, who finished runner-up in the 2019 British Formula 3 championship and subsequently drove a Formula 1 racing car for Red Bull Racing and a GT car for Aston Martin in the official rookie tests of the World Endurance Championship, has been quiet since the end of 2021. There have been no more races for him since then.

[25.06. | 10:00] Envision Racing has confirmed its first driver for the rookie test in Berlin: Zak O'Sullivan will once again be behind the wheel of the team's Gen3 Evo car in the German capital following rookie training in Jeddah. The Brit finished sixth in the ‘0th free practice’ in Saudi Arabia, but collided with Jamie Chadwick shortly before the end of the session.

The 2023 Formula 3 runner-up is racing in Japan this year, where he is competing in Super Formula. He is also driving a Ferrari 296 GT3 in Super GT.

[24.06. | 09:00] Porsche has announced its drivers for the rookie test: DTM driver Ayhancan Güven will be driving the Porsche factory team's car for the first time. The team has introduced Munich-based Elia Weiß as its second driver. The reigning German karting champion is part of Motorsport Team Germany and currently competes in the Italian Formula 4 Championship. Last Sunday (22 June), he turned 16, thereby fulfilling the requirement for the international B licence, which is necessary to participate in the rookie test. This makes Weiß the youngest driver ever to take part in an official Formula E session.

[18.06. | 18:09] Russian up-and-coming formula driver Nikita Bedrin has been confirmed by DS Penske as a participant for the rookie test in Berlin. Bedrin, who currently competes in the European Formula Regional, was also announced as a new member of the "Penske Driver Development Programme".

[17.06. | 15:00] While most Formula E teams have not yet named any drivers for the rookie test in Berlin, both McLaren drivers have already been confirmed. In addition to Ella Lloyd, Irishman Alex Dunne will also be back in the papaya-coloured Gen3 Evo car. Dunne leads the overall Formula 2 standings five race weekends before the end of the season.

[17.06. | 10:00] Porsche customer team Cupra Kiro has unveiled its first driver for the rookie test: Bianca Bustamante will drive one of the team's two Porsche 99X Electric WCG cars in Berlin. The Filipino drove for McLaren in the women's test as part of the pre-season test drives in Madrid and finished third. She was also announced as the team's official development driver.

[17.06. | 10:00] Nissan has unveiled reigning F1 Academy champion Abbi Pulling as its official rookie and simulator driver. The 22-year-old has signed a long-term cooperation agreement with the team, according to the press release. Pulling had already driven for Nissan at the women's test in Madrid, where she set the fastest time. "I am delighted to join the Nissan Formula E Team and look forward to building on our collaboration after driving for the team at the test in Jarama," said Pulling.

However, although she is now an official rookie driver for the team, the rookie test in Berlin is not mentioned at all in the press release. When asked by e-Formula.news, a Nissan spokeswoman confirmed: "This has not yet been confirmed. We will announce our drivers for the rookie test soon."

[10 Jun | 15:00] McLaren has named its first driver for the rookie test in Berlin: Welshman Ella Lloyd will drive one of the two papaya-coloured cars at the former Tempelhof Airport. Lloyd has already driven for the team in the women's test in Madrid and finished in 6th place.

[10.06. | 12:00] The first driver for the rookie test has been officially confirmed since last October: Jamie Chadwick will once again be at the wheel of the works team's Jaguar I-Type 7. The British driver had previously completed the women's test in Madrid and the rookie training session in Jeddah for the team.
