Formula E continues this weekend with the Tokyo E-Prix on the streets of Tokyo. It is the first night race in the Japanese capital. Find out what else is going on in the paddock at the circuit in the latest instalment of our series ‘Paddock Whispers’. We’ll be updating this live feed regularly throughout the weekend.

>>> Formula E pays tribute to Cyril Blais

[07/24 | 10.45 am] Formula E is also paying tribute to Cyril Blais at the Tokyo E-Prix. A memorial gathering took place at 11.45 am on Friday outside the Citroen Racing garage in the pit lane, followed by a minute’s silence. A further minute’s silence is also planned on the grid on Saturday before the national anthem.

[07/24 | 10.15 am] Japanese racing driver Juju Noda, who has previously driven a Formula E car for the Jaguar team on several occasions, will complete a drive in the Gen3 Evo showcar on Sunday at 6.20 pm local time in Japan. The test drive is scheduled to last 30 minutes.

[07/24 | 9.20 am] Cupra Kiro driver Pepe Marti is really looking forward to the race on the Tokyo street circuit. The Spaniard has come up with a special helmet design for the Tokyo double-header. The helmet features Japanese characters and typical Japanese symbols such as a maneki-neko.

[07/24 | 8.45 am] The sudden death of Cyril Blais has caused great consternation in the Formula E paddock. Numerous teams and drivers paid tribute to the Citroën Racing team principal, who was just 43 years old. Maximilian Günther, who had previously worked with Blais in Formula 2 and later at Maserati MSG Racing. "Devastating news and a huge loss of a true friend. Cyril was an incredibly special person, a great character and a true racer", wrote the German.

Lucas di Grassi also recalled their time together at Venturi: "We shared some wonderful moments together, and he will always be remembered as an outstanding professional and a true friend." Numerous Formula E teams expressed similar sentiments. Mahindra team principal Fred Bertrand described Blais as a ‘respected leader and true racer’ who leaves behind a lasting legacy. Other teams, including Kiro, Envision, Porsche and Jaguar, also expressed their condolences to Blais’s family, friends and the staff at Citroën Racing.

Lola summed up the mood in the paddock: "Today we have lost not only a respected team principal and competitor, but also a friend – and, above all, a wonderful person who will be sorely missed."

>>> Andretti with special livery in Tokyo

[07/24 | 8:10 am] Ahead of the penultimate race weekend of the 12th season, the Andretti team is travelling to Tokyo with a new look. The 2026 Tokyo E-Prix marks the start of a collaboration between the American team and the iconic Japanese car brand Liberty Walk. This partnership will be unveiled for the first time during Tokyo’s inaugural night race. In Tokyo, both Andretti cars will line up on the grid with special liveries. The race cars’ new look will be complemented by bespoke racing suits, special team outfits and fan merchandise, all designed to create a spectacular new look under the floodlights.

[07/24 | 7:50 am] For its final home race of the Gen3 era, Japanese manufacturer Nissan has devised a unique special livery. Taking its cue from the iconic colour palette of Nissan’s performance cars, the design combines grey and black with NISMO’s signature red accents. The team’s signature cherry blossom motif is also retained. Reigning world champion Oliver Rowland and his team-mate Norman Nato will wear racing suits in the colours of the Tokyo special livery throughout the race weekend to match.

[07/24 | 7.10 am] To mark the Tokyo E-Prix, Formula E has teamed up with the illustration firm Shotopop and the cap manufacturer New Era. The result is a new take on the classic Formula E logo. The Formula E ‘e’ logo is featured on caps in the form of an eye-catching neon koi fish.
