Formula E is contesting its next double-header in China this weekend. As always, you can find out what else is going on in the paddock at the Shanghai International Circuit in the latest edition of our popular "Paddock Whispers" series. We will update this news ticker regularly throughout the weekend.

>>> Track in Shanghai resurfaced

[30.05. | 06:18] As Mahindra replacement driver Jordan King reported on the team's Instagram account, the entire circuit in Shanghai has been resurfaced. This should significantly improve the lap times this year, in addition to the boost provided by the changes to the Gen3 Evo race car - softer Hankook tyres and all-wheel drive in 350 kW mode. In 2024, Mitch Evans set the fastest lap on the circuit in 1:13.215 minutes in the first free practice session.

>>> Shanghai lap in the simulator with Oliver Askew

[29.05. | 21:03] Andretti has published a video of a simulator lap by reserve driver Oliver Askew on Instagram. The adjustments to Turns 11 and 12, where new sausage curbs have been installed to prevent drivers from cutting the corner, are clearly visible (see entry from 17:42).

>>> Weather: risk of rain increases for Sunday

[29.05. | 18:03] While it looked like a completely dry weekend in Shanghai at the beginning of the week, the forecasts have now changed significantly: It could rain again late Saturday evening and on Sunday. After Monaco and Tokyo, this would be the third race weekend in a row to be run on a wet track.

What already seems certain, however, is that while Friday and Saturday are expected to be sunny with temperatures of up to 30 degrees Celsius, Sunday will be cloudy and around ten degrees cooler.

>>> New kerbs to prevent crashes

[29.05. | 17:42] A major change has been made to the Shanghai International Circuit: New curbs have been installed in the area of the chicane that leads back onto the start-finish straight. This is reported by the colleagues at FE Notebook. This is to prevent drivers from taking too many shortcuts across the grass after several such incidents last year.

Furthermore, Formula E can do without the tyre stacks on the inside of turn 12, which were intended to prevent too extreme a shortcut last year. Formula E is one of only a few racing series to use this section of the circuit. The layout of the full circuit then leads onto a straight more than a kilometre long, which is omitted by the electric series.

>>> Jewellery manufacturer Laofengxiang designs winners' trophies

[29.05. | 15:26] There will be special trophies for the drivers and teams at the Shanghai E-Prix: Chinese jewellery manufacturer Laofengxiang, founded in 1848, has designed and handcrafted eight trophies for the top three drivers in each race and the winning team.

>>> Dan Ticktum wins 100,000 dollars for a good cause

[29.05. | 14:02] Cupra Kiro driver Dan Ticktum has won 100,000 dollars in the High Octane Challenge organised by YouTuber MrBeast. The Briton had to complete four laps of the Miami International Autodrome in less time than it took Ronnie, a friend of the YouTuber, to complete three laps. Ticktum won the race and donated the money to "Help for Heroes", a British charity that supports veterans in the UK.

>>> Sustainability measures at the Shanghai E-Prix

[29.05. | 12:56] Formula E has announced that it will use electricity from the local power grid at the Shanghai E-Prix for sustainability reasons. To avoid overloading the grid, generators will also be used to produce electricity from hydrogenated vegetable oils (HVO). These are waste products from food production that are completely CO2-neutral.

Furthermore, there will once again be free water dispensers for spectators in the Fan Village. Formula E will provide containers made of recyclable material to reduce the use of singe-use plastic.

>>> Gaming: Gen3 Evo car available in Asphalt Legends Unite

[29.05. | 11:17] For the first time, the Gen3 Evo car from Formula E is available in a racing game: Asphalt Legends Unite players can choose between Jaguar TCS Racing, TAG Heuer Porsche, Andretti and Nissan liveries.
