After crash in lap 1: Grid penalty for Max Günther! All Formula E penalties at the Jeddah E-Prix at a glance

As with every Formula E race, the race stewards of the FIA have the task of checking compliance with the Technical and Sporting Regulations. If an offence is found, they must also decide on the penalty. As usual, you will find a list of all decisions made by the Formula E stewards in this article.
At the Jeddah E-Prix 2025, Hassan AlAbdali, Loic Bacquelaine and Achim Loth will take on this task. They will be supported by ex-racing driver Pedro Lamy, who has never competed in a Formula E race but has a lot of experience in GT and endurance racing.
Penalties ahead of the E-Prix
- Lucas di Grassi got a 20 places grid penalty for changing the electric motor on his Lola Yamaha ABT in Mexico City. As the penalty was announced after the final grid was published, he will have to take it at the first race in Jeddah.
- Lucas di Grassi received a further 20 places grid penalty for breaking the seal on his car's electric motor after the race in Mexico City. After Lola Yamaha had various technical problems in the first races, an inspection of the engines was necessary for safety reasons. This was categorised by the race stewards as a parts swap, which was penalised with a 20-position demotion.
- Zane Maloney was also moved back 20 positions in the grid as his car had the same problem as di Grassi's.

Penalties in free practice on Thursday and Friday
- Jamie Chadwick received a reprimand for causing a collision with Zak O'Sullivan in the "0th free practice session".
- Norman Nato also received a reprimand for speeding during the full-course yellow exercise in free practice 1.
- David Beckmann received a fine of 1,900 euros for being caught in the pit lane at 69 km/h instead of the permitted 50 km/h. The German also received one penalty point on his racing license.
- DS Penske received a reprimand because the team brought both cars into the pits at the same time while doing a Pit Boost in Free Practice 1. The stewards considered it an mitigating circumstance that Jean-Eric Vergne had to stop at the FIA garage beforehand to be weighed. He then drove to the Pit Boost shortly before Maximilian Günther also came into the pits, as the energy in his battery had been used up.
- Jake Hughes was fined 1,000 euros for using the pit boost three times in the first free practice session. The instructions of battery manufacturer Fortescue Zero stipulate that each car must be charged with 600 kW no more than twice in a free practice session.
- Zane Maloney was fined 1,000 euros for not respecting the tyre area in the garage before the second free practice session.
- Stoffel Vandoorne received a warning for impeeding Nyck de Vries. Although there was contact between the cars, the stewards refrained from judging this as causing a collision.
- Nick Cassidy was fined 2,500 euros because a mechanic on his Jaguar held the handle of the pit boost charger while the car was being recharged. This is prohibited for safety reasons.
Penalties during and after qualifying on Friday
- Edoardo Mortara was allowed to take part in the race even though he had not taken part in qualifying.
- Lucas di Grassi received a 10-second stop-and-go penalty, as he could not be fully moved back by 40 positions. He must drive into the pits within the first two laps of the race and stop there for ten seconds. No work may be carried out on the car during this time.
- Zane Maloney also received a 10-second stop-and-go penalty, as his 20-position grid drop could not be completed, too.
Penalites during and after the race on Friday
- Mitch Evans received a five-second time penalty for causing a collision with Pascal Wehrlein on the first lap. The New Zealander also received a penalty point on his racing licence.
- Norman Nato received a drive-through penalty for having tyre pressures on his Nissan below the minimum specified by tyre manufacturer Hankook.
- Nico Müller got a three places grid penalty for Saturday's race after causing a collision with Antonio Felix da Costa on the first lap. Müller also received an additional penalty point.

- Lucas di Grassi was disqualified because he had consumed more than the maximum permitted 42.35 kWh of energy in the race. He had previously finished the race in 16th position.
- Dan Ticktum was subsequently given a drive-through penalty, which was converted into a time penalty of 25 seconds, because several mechanics had worked on the Briton's car when it was in ready-to-move status. For safety reasons, work on the vehicle is then prohibited.
Penalties in free practice on Saturday
- Max Günther got a fine of 1,000 euros, because he used more power than allowed when doing the practice start at the end of FP3.
- His team-mate Jean-Eric Vergne got a fine of 1,000 euros, too for the same reason.
Penalties after qualifying on Saturday
- Stoffel Vandoorne was disqualified after a technical inspection after qualifying revealed that his fire extinguisher was not working. He was allowed to start the race from the back of the grid.

Penalties during the race on Saturday
- Max Günther got a five places grid penalty for the race in Miami after causing a collision with Antonio Felix da Costa. Günther also received two penalty points for this action.
- Sam Bird was given a five-second time penalty for leaving the track at turn 10 and re-entering the track without stopping. However, this had been laid down as a rule for this case by the race director in the drivers' briefing. Bird therefore dropped back from 9th to 12th place.
