The season opener of the 2025/26 Formula E season was characterised by a large number of incidents. But one moment definitely stands out from the multitude of situations: Spaniard Pepe Marti in the Cupra Kiro with the number 3 collided with Nico Müller and Antonio Felix da Costa and then rolled over several times. The 20-year-old left the accident uninjured.
The start to his first season in Formula E could not have been more dramatic: Pepe Marti ended his first race in dramatic fashion and earlier than planned.
It was a series of unfortunate events: The Jaguar of Mitch Evans and the Envision of Sebastien Buemi caused a full-course yellow after contact. The drivers on the track reduced their speeds as prescribed, but Marti had apparently not noticed the full-course yellow coming into effect, or not on time.
As a result, he hit fellow competitors Nico Müller in the Porsche and Antonio Felix da Costa in the Jaguar, who were in front of him at the time and had already reduced their speed to 50 km/h, at very high speed. The impact caused the car to roll over several times.
The car then caught fire and had to be extinguished. The Spanish rookie driver was able to leave his car unharmed, but his race was over. The incident brought back memories of last year's Sao Paulo E-Prix, where Pascal Wehrlein also rolled over in his Porsche.

Marti: "It was a big, scary accident, but I'm fine"
Marti spoke on Cupra Kiro's Instagram account after the accident: "I'm fine. It was a big, scary shunt, but I'm all good and a lot of positives to take away from the race. We were looking pretty well until then, easily in the top 8. Yeah, just a shame and sorry to the team."
Pepe Marti now has time to recover from the accident, as the next Formula E race is just over a month away. He and his Cupra Kiro team will next be competing for points in Mexico City on 10 January 2026. However, the Spaniard will have to start from the back of the grid: the race stewards deemed Marti to be responsible for the collision.
