Sam Bird has been a driver in the FIA Formula E World Championship since Season 1. With Nissan's announcement that Bird will be joining the team as a reserve driver this season, the British driver's Formula E career is not quite over yet. However, his active days as a driver are over for the time being. 11 seasons in Formula E have brought many highlights in the Brit's career.

Sam Bird celebrated his first victory in just the second race in Formula E history. At the 2014 Putrajaya E-Prix, the Briton prevailed in the Virgin Racing car and even took the lead in the overall standings. With this triumph, Bird became one of the first big names in the then still young series and played a decisive role in shaping its early days.

In the final race of the first Formula E season, Bird struck again and took his second victory. This triumph was particularly emotional, not only because it crowned the season finale, but also because it was his home race in London of all places. A perfect end to a strong debut season.

Bird continued his strong form in Season 2, winning the fourth race of the season in Buenos Aires. With this victory, he once again underlined how competitive he was in the DS Virgin Racing car and cemented his status as one of the top drivers in the series.

In season 3, Bird achieved a real sensation. At the first New York City E-Prix in Formula E history, he won both races of the double-header. This made him only the second driver ever to achieve this feat in the series and firmly established him among the top drivers in Formula E.

The 2017/18 season is regarded as Bird's strongest Formula E season. With two race wins and a total of six podiums, he was in the title fight for a long time and finished a strong third in the championship. His highlights also included victory in the opening race in Hong Kong: Bird won the season opener on 2 December 2017 to lead the overall standings.

In season 5, Bird celebrated his next big moment: victory at the Santiago E-Prix, the third race of the season. This race went down as the hottest in Formula E history - and Bird maintained absolute control in the merciless heat battle. With his triumph in the Envision-Virgin Racing car, he even briefly took the championship lead.

Bird won the season opener in Diriyah on 22 November 2019 in commanding style. The Briton made a clear statement at the start of his sixth season and showed once again why he is one of the most consistent and dangerous drivers in the field.

After six seasons with Virgin Racing, Bird switched to Jaguar Racing - and immediately won the second race of the season in Diriyah. The Briton thus impressively proved that his success was not tied to a specific team.

After two seasons at Jaguar, his path led him to McLaren. On the final lap, Bird secured victory at the 2024 Sao Paulo E-Prix, a spectacular manoeuvre that brought the young team its first triumph and made motorsport history.

After eleven seasons, Sam Bird retired from Formula E as a regular driver. He had been part of the series from the very beginning and celebrated numerous successes during this time. For the 38-year-old, it was an emotional farewell to a championship that he played a key role in shaping for over a decade.

No one ever leaves completely - this was also true for Bird in Formula E. In season 12, he will take on the role of reserve driver for the Nissan Formula E Team and thus remain loyal to the series. Bird will therefore remain a familiar face in the paddock and bring his vast experience to the ambitious team.
