Formula E will make its comeback in Miami in just a few weeks - more than ten years after it made a guest appearance there in its first season. However, the city in Florida is not the first venue to return to the Formula E racing calendar after a long time. We have analysed the race calendars of all eleven Formula E seasons in history. In this photo gallery, you will find the ten cities with the longest breaks between two events.
After the race in Hong Kong was the venue for the opening race in seasons 3 and 4, Diriyah took over this place in the calendar in the fifth season. Instead, Hong Kong formed an “Asian block” with the new race in Sanya and therefore moved from December to March.
Unlike all the other races in this list, the long break between the first two Monaco races was planned from the outset: The organizer initially held the E-Prix alternating annually with the historic Grand Prix. Formula E has only been held in Monaco every year since 2021.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there was no race in New York City in 2020. However, the racing series returned to Brooklyn Harbor for a double header in 2021 after an absence of almost exactly two years.
There is no 7th place in this list, but two cities share 6th place, Rome being one of them. The Italian capital did not have a race in the 2020 pandemic season either, meaning that around two years passed between the two races in 2019 and 2021.
The second city in joint sixth place is Mexico City. The same applies here too: During the pandemic, the race track buildings housed a temporary hospital, which is why no race could take place in 2020. The race series returned in 2021 after almost exactly two years.
More than two years will have passed by June when Formula E returns to Jakarta. Although the race was on the provisional race calendar in 2024, it was later canceled because an election campaign period was announced for this period in the Indonesian presidential election campaign.
Fourth place went to the “Monaco of South America”: Punta del Este. After two races in 2014 and 2015, the city in Uruguay stepped in again in March 2018 as a replacement for a race in Sao Paulo that had to be canceled.
Marrakesh, another city that had to step in at short notice, is in third place on this list. Marrakesh was the last Formula E race on February 29, 2020, before the COVID-19 pandemic paralyzed racing operations for months. As the staging of a race in Vancouver planned for July 2022 fell through, Formula E raced here again at short notice.
The UK capital takes second place: after Battersea Park hosted the finals in the first two Formula E seasons, it took more than five years before the racing series was able to stage an E-Prix in the UK again at the ExCeL exhibition center.
1st place: Miami | 3684 days
More than ten years will have passed when Formula E returns to Miami in a few weeks' time: At Homestead-Miami Speedway, the racing series will make its Florida comeback after racing on a circuit in the city center in March 2015.
