In the recent past, permanent race tracks have become more and more established in the Formula E racing calendar. Classic, narrow city circuits, which were still one of the unique selling points of the racing series in the early years, are increasingly being replaced by circuits on which today's much faster cars can really show off their speed.
Nevertheless, Formula E racing cars have also reached impressive speeds on some city circuits - and not just in the Gen3 era. We have picked out the twelve fastest Formula E circuits in the history of the racing series here.
12th place: Monaco (135.32 km/h | 84,08 mph)
Monaco takes 12th place: one of the slowest circuits in Formula 1, the Principality almost makes it into the top 10 in Formula E. Sacha Fenestraz drove at an average speed of more than 135 km/h (84 mph) in the 2023 qualifying semi-final duel. However, the chances are good for Monaco to move further up the field in the course of this season: After all, the Gen3 Evo cars are significantly faster this season than in previous years thanks to all-wheel drive and the significantly softer Hankook tires.
11th place: Punta del Este (136.09 km/h | 84,56 mph)
In 11th place is Punta del Este, a track from the Gen1 era of the electric racing series: Lucas di Grassi drove the fastest lap on the fast street circuit in Uruguay in 2018 at more than 136 km/h or 84.5 mph. However, there was no chance to improve on this later on: the track disappeared from the race calendar after season 4.
10th place: Berlin (136.78 km/h | 84,99 mph)
The new track layout in Berlin made it to tenth place: Edoardo Mortara set a lap time of 1:01.741 minutes in his Mahindra in the 2024 final duel, which corresponds to an average speed of 136.78 km/h or nearly 85 mph on the 2.345 km circuit. Just like in Monaco, the same applies to Berlin: significant improvements can be expected with the Gen3 Evo.
9th place: Marrakesh (138,94 km/h | 86,33 mph)
9th place goes to Marrakesh: In the 2022 replacement race, Jean-Eric Vergne achieved an average speed of about 139 km/h or 86 mph in his quarter-final duel. The circuit in Morocco is one of only two tracks on this list where the fastest speed was achieved by the Gen2 car.
8th place: Hyderabad (139.37 km/h | 86,60 mph)
In 8th place is Hyderabad: Jaguar driver Mitch Evans lapped the 2835-metre circuit on his pole position lap in 2023 in 1:13.228 minutes, which corresponds to an average of 139.37 km/h or 86.60 mph. It is unclear whether there will be another race here in the future. After all, a legal dispute is currently underway in India due to a payment made by those responsible after the 2024 race was canceled.
7th place: Valencia (140.47 km/h | 87,28 mph)
Valencia makes it to 7th place: the circuit was also used for a double-header in addition to pre-season testing in the 2021 season during the Gen2 era. Antonio Felix da Costa set the fastest lap time of the weekend in the Superpole session on Saturday with a time of 1:26.522 minutes.
6th place: Jeddah (144.43 km/h | 89,74 mph)
Sixth place goes to Jeddah: Formula E raced for the first time just a few weeks ago on a shortened version of the Jeddah Corniche Circuit, which was built for the Formula 1 World Championship. Taylor Barnard set the fastest time of the weekend in 1:14.804 minutes, which corresponds to an average speed of 144.43 km/h or 89.74 mph.
5th place: Shanghai (149.80 km/h | 93,08 mph)
Fifth place goes to Shanghai. Here, too, Formula E 2023 drove a shortened version of the track. Nick Cassidy achieved an average speed of almost 150 km/h or more than 93 mph in the final duel. We also expect a significant increase in Shanghai with the Gen3 Evo during the double-header in 2025.
4th place: Sao Paulo (151.67 km/h | 94,24 mph)
Fourth place goes to Sao Paulo: Jake Dennis set a lap time of 1:09.617 minutes in the 2nd free practice session of the debut race of the Gen3 Evo cars - an average of almost 152 km/h or more than 94 mph! However, there have been three faster circuits in Formula E history...
3rd place: Cape Town (154.99 km/h | 96,31 mph)
In third place is the fastest “real” street circuit in Formula E: Cape Town. Sacha Fenestraz drove an impressive average speed of 154.99 km/h or 96,31 mph in South Africa in 2023! This could only be topped on two permanent race tracks so far.
2nd place: Misano (159.33 km/h | 99,00 mph)
Misano finds itself in second place. The permanent race track on the Adriatic coast was the scene of a one-off double-header in 2024. Jake Hughes set the fastest lap of the weekend in his qualifying duel in the quarter-final in 1:16.413 minutes, an average of almost 160 km/h or exactly 99 mph.
1st place: Portland (167.26 km/h | 103,93 mph)
First place goes to Portland: Mitch Evans was the fastest on the permanent circuit in Oregon in the third free practice session: 167.26 km/h or 103.93 mph is the highest average speed ever achieved on a Formula E race weekend to date. In contrast to many other permanent circuits, the US race track was driven in its entirety and without additional chicanes.

Thank you for this list, I've never really thought about circuits this way, so it really is an interesting approach. I presume that speeds are based on the fastest lap achieved during the entire event and not necessarily the pole position lap?
Also, according to my data, based on pole speeds however, this list would be extended with Mexico City, Long Beach and Diriyah:
track-name date pole-time pole-speed
Portland 2023.06.24 1:08,931 168,220
Misano 2024.04.14 1:16,538 159,074
Cape Town 2023.02.25 1:07,848 154,988
Sao Paulo 2024.12.07 1:09,851 151,162
Shanghai 2024.05.25 1:13,322 149,800
Jeddah 2025.02.15 1:14,804 144,425
Valencia 2021.04.24 1:26,522 140,468
Mexico City 2022.02.12 1:07,100 139,815
Hyderabad 2023.02.11 1:13,228 139,373
Marrakesh 2022.07.02 1:17,070 138,778
Tempelhof 2024.05.11 1:01,741 136,732
Long Beach 2015.04.04 0:56,937 134,738
Punta del Este 2014.12.13 1:15,408 134,055
Diriyah 2022.01.29 1:07,154 133,752
