Porsche looking forward to Formula E track debut: Jeddah circuit a "mixture of Sao Paulo & Mexico"

Thomas Gruessmer

On 14 and 15 February 2025, Formula E will contest its first double-header of season 11 in Saudi Arabia. This time, however, not in Diriyah, but on the Jeddah Corniche Circuit familiar from Formula 1. The Porsche camp sees good potential in the new circuit.

The action finally continues next weekend! For the first time, Formula E will make a guest appearance at the "Jeddah Corniche Circuit", which has been used by Formula 1 since 2021. However, Formula E will race on a modified version of the circuit.

The track length will be shortened to 3.001 kilometres. In addition, four chicanes will be built into the track layout, which do not exist in the Grand Prix layout. The aim of this is to create more opportunities for the Gen3 Evo cars to recuperate more energy. The Attack Zone is located in turn 13.

"The track layout is a mixture of Mexico and Sao Paulo", explains Porsche team principal Florian Modlinger. For him, the track's asphalt and its influence on the tyres once again plays an important role: "That was a key focus of our preparation."

"Track could make for good racing"

Antonio Felix da Costa, overall championship leader of Formula E, also expects an interesting track: "It could make for good racing. At least in the simulator it has a good flow", says the Portuguese driver.

Porsche can look back on good results in Saudi Arabia so far. On the brand's debut in season 6, Andre Lotterer immediately took second place in Diriyah and thus the first podium for the manufacturer from Zuffenhausen.

In season 9, Pascal Wehrlein won both races of the double-header. A Porsche 99X Electric also won in season 10 with Jake Dennis (Andretti). We will see on Friday and Saturday whether Porsche can also achieve such results in Jeddah.
