The Porsche chapter seems to be over for Antonio Felix da Costa: The Portuguese driver is said to have cancelled his works driver contract with the German manufacturer and thus left the TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team. This is reported by the colleagues at The Race. The 2019-20 Formula E champion is therefore likely to move to Jaguar TCS Racing, where he will succeed Nick Cassidy.
Felix da Costa is leaving Porsche after three seasons of mixed results. Together, they competed in 48 races, five of which the Portuguese driver won - particularly impressive during his outstanding form at the end of the tenth season. Most recently, he won in Portland in 2023. He reached the podium six more times and scored a total of 338 points. Fifth place in the 2024/25 Drivers' Championship was Felix da Costa's best overall result for Porsche.
However, it was not only the sporting aspect that led to the end of his Porsche saga. The relationship between Felix da Costa and his teammate Pascal Wehrlein had cooled significantly this year. According to our information, this was due to an incident during the drivers' parade at the season opener in Sao Paulo, the exact details of which all parties have managed to keep largely secret.
Porsche was nevertheless interested in keeping the 33-year-old for another year. However, Felix da Costa made no secret of his desire to also compete in the World Endurance Championship (WEC) again. Porsche did not want to grant him this wish, as he explained to to e-Formula.news in London, which may also have been a significant reason for the split.
Nico Müller as his successor?
It is still unclear who will succeed him. The only realistic candidate at present is Nico Müller. Porsche had already tested the Swiss driver in the middle of the tenth season as a replacement for Felix da Costa, before the Portuguese driver started his outstanding run of results. Therefore, the German manufacturer parked its driver with Porsche's customer team Andretti last season.
Müller had a mixed first year there, but improved significantly over the course of the season. Porsche junior David Beckmann, who failed to impress in his first full Formula E season with the second customer team Kiro, is unlikely to have a serious chance of securing the cockpit alongside his friend Wehrlein.
Neither Porsche nor Felix da Costa have yet commented on the split. We expect an official announcement of the driver line-up for the twelfth Formula E season in September.
