Rowland & de Vries flawless, Hughes poor: The e-Formula.news driver rating for the 2025 Monaco E-Prix

Tim Neuhaus

The "double-header" in Monaco was exciting right up to the last lap. With or without rain: Monaco and Formula E are simply a perfect match. Oliver Rowland was the dominator of the weekend, Sebastien Buemi was able to spray champagne again after ages and Nyck de Vries drove his best race weekend to date for Mahindra. On the other hand, some drivers were very disappointing, most notably Jake Hughes.

After each round of Formula E season 11, our editors award points on a scale between 1 and 10 for all drivers. They are then sorted according to their average "rating score". The rating is based exclusively on driving performance, not the potential of the car or external circumstances.

Oliver Rowland | Nissan | 9.8

A first and a second place: Oliver Rowland is marching inexorably towards the world championship title. Even with two mistakes in qualifying, he was miles ahead of the rest of the field. Although the second race did not go perfectly for him strategically, his driving performance was unrivalled - albeit with a crowbar. Rowland leads the drivers' championship by 48 points - a huge margin by Formula E standards.

Nyck de Vries | Mahindra Racing | 8.8

Mahindra is on a real high. In Monaco, Nyck de Vries showed why he has already won the Formula E World Championship! The Dutchman is the only driver apart from Rowland who was in contention for the top spot in both races. He was in the qualifying duels both times and dominated the team-internal duel with Edo Mortara. His defence made the competition swear, but was essential for the huge points haul and the first Mahindra podium for de Vries.

Sebastien Buemi | Envision Racing | 7.8

Sebastien Buemi finally celebrated another race win on Sunday after 80 races. The Swiss driver is the record winner in Monaco and impressively demonstrated his skills on the historic streets. He executed the team's strategy without making any mistakes and managed to pull away from Rowland in the closing laps. The only downer of the race weekend was the points-less race on Saturday.

Flop of the E-Prix: Jake Hughes | Maserati MSG Racing | 2.0

Jake Hughes was already the weakest driver at the Miami E-Prix according to our scores. We actually thought it couldn't get any lower, but Hughes managed to surprise us! In Monaco, the Maserati driver received an even worse score than in the USA. He scored no championship points, didn't make it out of the duel phase in qualifying and even finished last in one of the two group phases.

When he did appear on TV, it was because he was involved in collisions. In Saturday's race it was Zane Maloney, in Sunday's race David Beckmann, who lost all chances in the race with a tyre damage. Hughes received penalties for both offences. As a result, he collected at least two penalty points, if no points for the drivers' standings.
