Successful experience for Cupra Kiro driver David Beckmann: at the double-header in London, he finally scored his first world championship point in the last race of season 11. Although he himself seems happy about it, he is also convinced that it should have happened much earlier. His first full season in Formula E will be one to remember.
After struggling in qualifying for Sunday's race, Beckmann only started the final race of the season from 20th place. He remained at the back of the field for the first two thirds of the race and saved his Attack Mode for the final phase. He activated four minutes of attack mode on laps 22 and 27, moving up to 11th place.
Thanks to two time penalties for his team-mate Dan Ticktum, he subsequently moved up to 10th place. This finally rewarded him with his first point of the season: "All in all, I'm very happy to have finally collected my first point of the season", said Beckmann after the race.
"I think more would have been possible"
"There were many occasions this year when we were unfortunate. The first top 10 result should have happened much earlier. Nevertheless, we have made good progress to finally reward ourselves with points. Even though I think more would have been possible, I'm satisfied with our performance. To go from 20th place to 10th is a good performance", added the German.
At the moment, it is not yet clear whether the 25-year-old will continue with Cupra Kiro in season 12 or whether he will set off for new shores: "I am very grateful for the support that the team has given me over the year", said the young man from Iserlohn. "It was a very exciting season and one that I will remember for a long time."
Beckmann finished his first Formula E season as a regular driver in 23rd place in the overall standings. The only driver he was able to beat was Zane Maloney from Lola Yamaha ABT, who also contested his first Formula E season.
