A few days after Opel's entry into Formula E and the announcement that DS Automobiles would be leaving the electric racing series, the Stellantis Group made the next announcement on Monday morning: Citroen Racing will also compete in the Gen4 era of Formula E. The French brand will therefore enter its second season in 2026/27. In the first six races, the team has already achieved one race win, one pole position and another podium finish.

The Stellantis Group used the race weekend surrounding the Madrid E-Prix to provide information about the line-up of its Formula E racing teams. DS Automobiles made the start. The French brand, which has been competing in Formula E since Season 2, announced that it would be withdrawing from the electric racing series and limiting its sponsorship activities in the sport to golf and sailing in future.

The German brand Opel then announced that it was entering a works team called the Opel GSE Formula E Team. The only thing missing was Citroen, which took over from Maserati just before the start of the season. But here, too, it is now clear: Citroen will remain in Formula E. Unlike Opel, however, not as a works team owned by the Stellantis Group, but still from the base of the former Venturi and MSG team in Monaco.

For the "humble but ambitious" team, the championship is "the ultimate platform", said Xavier Chardon, CEO of Citroen in a media round in Madrid. He thus confirmed Citroen Racing's long-term commitment to Formula E.

"At Citroen, innovation must serve real life," Chardon continued. "Formula E - and now Gen4 - is how we turn electric performance into everyday progress. Motorsport has always been part of our DNA. We are proud to be fully involved in this new chapter."

In its first Formula E races, Citroen Racing was able to record some immediate successes: Nick Cassidy finished third on the podium at the season opener and the New Zealander even won the second race of the season, the Mexico City E-Prix. This was followed by the first pole position for the French brand in the electric racing series at the Madrid E-Prix last Saturday. With 61 points, Citroen currently occupies fifth place in the overall standings, just one point behind Envision Racing.
