Taylor Barnard beats World Champion Wehrlein! The e-Formula.news Driver Ratings from London

Taylor Barnard capped off the Formula E season finale in London with his maiden victory and also came out on top in the e-Formula.news Driver Ratings. With a score of 9.2, the 22-year-old beats newly crowned World Champion Pascal Wehrlein, who earns a 9.0 after taking pole position, victory and his second Formula E title. Lucas di Grassi, meanwhile, ends his Formula E career with a disastrous weekend plagued by technical problems.
After every race weekend of Formula E Season 12, our editors award each driver a score between 1 and 10. The drivers are then ranked according to their average "Rating Score". Only the drivers' performances are taken into account, rather than the potential of their cars or external circumstances.
Taylor Barnard | DS Penske | 9.2
DS Automobiles enjoyed a golden farewell to Formula E in London. Taylor Barnard won his first Formula E race in the French manufacturer's final appearance and became the youngest race winner in the history of the championship.
Barnard had already impressed with fifth place on Saturday to score valuable points. On Sunday, he was the only driver able to match the pace of the two Mahindra drivers Nyck de Vries and Edoardo Mortara at the front. Despite the two team-mates working together tactically, Barnard passed Mortara late in the race before also finding a way past de Vries.
After a difficult season for DS Penske, such a performance came as something of a surprise. Barnard delivered one of his strongest Formula E weekends across both races and capped it off with a composed drive to a historic maiden victory.
Pascal Wehrlein | Porsche | 9.0
Pascal Wehrlein became only the second driver in Formula E history to win the Drivers' World Championship twice. One of his biggest strengths throughout the season was his qualifying pace, and the Porsche driver delivered once again in London.
Wehrlein took pole position and victory on Saturday before qualifying on the second row again on Sunday. His cooperation with team-mate Nico Müller also worked extremely well for large parts of the weekend and played into Wehrlein's hands in the battle for the drivers' title.
The only major blemish on an otherwise remarkably composed weekend was his avoidable contact with Joel Eriksson in Sunday's race, for which Wehrlein was penalised by the stewards. He ultimately failed to score on Sunday, but his advantage from Saturday was enough to secure the second Formula E title of his career.
Mitch Evans | Jaguar TCS Racing | 8.2
It is difficult to see just how often Mitch Evans has come close to winning the Formula E title without quite getting there. Luck once again played a major part in London: on Saturday, the New Zealander was hit hard by the timing of the Full Course Yellow after he had already completed his mandatory PIT BOOST. While Wehrlein benefited, Evans dropped back to eighth place.
On Sunday, Evans needed victory to retain any hope of becoming World Champion. There was little to criticise in terms of his own driving, but he once again lost crucial time behind Müller. By the time Evans finally had clear air, Barnard and the two Mahindras had already pulled away. Fourth place was the maximum he could achieve – and with it went another opportunity to claim the Formula E crown.
Unluckiest driver of the E-Prix: Lucas di Grassi | Lola Yamaha ABT | 4.4
Lucas di Grassi could hardly have imagined a worse way to contest his final two Formula E races. The Brazilian retired from Saturday's race with a technical problem before another failure brought him to a halt in Sunday's third Free Practice session and triggered a red flag.
With the team subsequently having to work on the car, di Grassi was unable to complete a timed lap in qualifying. His final Formula E race also ended prematurely. It would have been difficult for the last weekend of his long Formula E career to go much worse.
We can hardly label the veteran a "flop", though. Even in the sessions and phases of the races without technical problems, di Grassi struggled to produce performances that would justify a significantly higher rating. At the same time, the reliability of his Lola Yamaha ABT once again let him down, as it had done several times during the season. "Unluckiest driver of the E-Prix" therefore feels like the far more appropriate description.
