Cupra Kiro announced its second regular driver for the upcoming Formula E season on Tuesday afternoon: Josep Maria "Pepe" Marti will drive the team's second car, making him team-mate to Dan Ticktum. The Spaniard will be making his Formula E debut. He currently drives in Formula 2, where he is in sixth place in the drivers' standings after the twelfth of 14 race weekends with three victories.

The 20-year-old has been active in formula racing since 2021. He finished third in the Spanish Formula 4 Championship straight away and was runner-up in the Asian Formula Regional the following year. This was followed by promotion to Formula 3 with Campos Racing, where he finished fifth in 2023 with three race wins.

In 2024, he switched to Formula 2, where he also competed for Campos Racing. He finished on the podium twice on his first race weekend, followed by his first victory at the season finale in Abu Dhabi. In his second Formula 2 season, he won the sprint races in Bahrain, Austria and Hungary and is currently in sixth place.

Marti: "My goal is to get up to speed"

"I'm very excited to join Cupra Kiro for the 2025/26 Formula E season," said Pepe Marti. "Obviously, it will be my first time racing in the category, and I'll be a rookie, but nonetheless, I'm looking forward to it. The team is coming into Season 12 off the back of a win in Jakarta, and I feel very motivated to get this new chapter started."

"With Dan [Ticktum] as my team-mate, I'll have a lot to learn and catch up on at the beginning of the season," he added. "My goal is to get up to speed, improve quickly and score points and hopefully get a couple of good results."

O'Hagan: "A top talent in modern motorsport"

Kiro-Cupra COO Russell O'Hagan also commented on the new signing and had words of praise for his new driver: "Welcoming Pepe to CUPRA KIRO marks an exciting new chapter for the team. Despite being just 20 years old, Pepe has shown exceptional levels of maturity, composure, and intelligence, which, when combined with his natural speed, makes him stand out as a top talent in modern motorsport."

"His decision to step away from Formula 2 and commit fully to our Formula E project is a real statement of intent, and not only validates our vision as a team, but shows belief in the future of the championship," O'Hagan continued. "His track record and drive align perfectly with our own goals, and together, we're building something with long-term potential. I'm excited to see how our journey together unfolds over Season 12."

Marti is the fifth Spanish driver in Formula E history: In the very first season, Jaime Alguersuari competed for Virgin Racing, Antonio Garcia for China Racing and Oriol Servia for Dragon Racing. Roberto Merhi then drove the last seven races for Mahindra in season 9 after regular driver Oliver Rowland left the team in the middle of the season.

It will be exciting to see how Marti performs alongside the experienced Dan Ticktum in the coming season. Season 12 kicks off on 6 December 2025 in Sao Paulo. But first, the pre-season test will take place in Valencia at the end of October.
