The top 3 also win according to our ratings! - The e-Formula.news driver rating for the Mexico City E-Prix

FIA Formula E
The first race in the new year 2026 is now in the Formula E history books. It was a weekend full of great achievements. Sebastien Buemi equalled the pole position record and Nick Cassidy gave Citroen its first win in only its second race since taking over! For Mahindra, on the other hand, it was a race weekend with two very contrasting sides. Edoardo Mortara celebrated on the podium, while Nyck de Vries had to park his car early in the race after a miserable qualifying session.
After each round of Formula E Season 12, our editors award points on a scale between 1 and 10 for all drivers. They are then sorted according to their average "rating score". The rating is based exclusively on driving performance, not the potential of the car or external circumstances.
Nick Cassidy | Citroen Racing | 9.7
It was a truly sensational success for Nick Cassidy and Citroen Racing. He finished in midfield in qualifying, but the New Zealander proved once again that he has a knack for such energy-intensive races. He saved energy at the start to put himself in exactly the right position later in the race. With the exception of qualifying, he and the team did everything perfectly. In addition to the victory, this also gives them the lead in the drivers' and teams' standings!
Edoardo Mortara | Mahindra Racing | 9.0
Mahindra already had the potential to secure a podium in the first race. While they were still standing in their own way in Brazil, Edoardo Mortara was at least able to prove that the Indian team's performance is very competitive. The Swiss drove a solid qualifying and an even better race. The decisive factor for his second place was his defence in the final laps. Mortara didn't let anyone past. He drove very hard and barely gave the competition any space, but remained fair - you can't make a Formula E car much wider than that!
Oliver Rowland | Nissan | 8.5
The reigning world champion finished on the podium for the second time in the second race. Rowland's tactics were identical to Cassidy's, but he had wasted an attack mode in the safety car phase. He also almost had a collision with Antonio Felix da Costa, which cost him a lot of time, and ended up directly between Mortara and Jake Dennis in the final phase. He looked like the fastest driver of the three, but failed to overtake Mortara. Nevertheless, it remains an outstanding drive by the Briton!
Flop of the E-Prix: Nyck de Vries | Mahindra Racing | 3.7
In contrast to his team-mate Mortara, Nyck de Vries had a disastrous weekend in Mexico City. The pace that Mortara showed seemed to be missing from de Vries throughout the weekend. Instead of entering the duel phase, the Dutchman finished last in qualifying and only started the race ahead of the penalised Pepe Marti. The season 7 world champion did not recover in the race either. 18th place was his best result before he had to park his car mid-race due to technical problems. Things can't get much worse in Miami.
