The race stewards of the FIA have cancelled a time penalty imposed on Envision driver Sebastien Buemi 13 days after the Jakarta E-Prix. The Swiss driver has thus moved back up to third place. He thus displaces his compatriot Nico Müller from the podium, who celebrated his first top-three result for his new team Andretti in Jakarta.

Sebastien Buemi received a five-second time penalty during the race because, in the opinion of the race stewards, he had caused a collision with Edoardo Mortara, who finished the race in second place. Although the Envision driver crossed the finish line in third place, he was automatically demoted to eighth place due to the time penalty.

After the Jakarta E-Prix, his team used the right-to-review. They presented the recordings from Buemi's onboard camera, which were not available to the race stewards at the time of the decision. As this showed a different perspective on the situation, which could lead to a different assessment, it was seen as new and significant evidence and a hearing was scheduled, which was attended by representatives of both teams as well as the two drivers concerned.

Overtaking manoeuvre from Buemi against Mortara was legit

"The driver of Car 16 (Buemi) argued that the New Element shows that his overtaking manoeuvre was legit, that he was always in control of his car and that when the slight contact between the two cars occurred, he was fully alongside Car 48," so the stewards decision. "The driver of Car 48 (Mortara) agreed with what the driver of Car 16 said and added that he barely felt the contact."

"Upon careful consideration of the circumstances, the Stewards find that no single party bears whole or predominant responsibility for the collision. Therefore, the Stewards decide to reverse the Decision 12. As a result the penalty (i.e. 5 second time penalty + 1 penalty point) on Car 16 is removed and the Stewards determine that no further action will be taken in relation to this collision."

Even though he was not directly involved in the situation, Andretti driver Nico Müller is now the one to suffer: The Swiss driver loses his first podium with the Andretti team - his second Formula E podium ever - and even has to hand over the trophy for third place, which he was presented with on the podium, to his compatriot Buemi.

Several shifts in the overall standings

Buemi thus moves up from 12th to 10th place in the drivers' standings, passing Jake Dennis and Nyck de Vries. At the top, Antonio Felix da Costa and Taylor Barnard have each increased their deficit by two championship points.

Envision Racing remains in 10th place in the teams' standings, but is now level on points with Cupra Kiro instead of being 11 points behind. Porsche (2), Andretti (3) and McLaren (4) lose championship points.

In the manufacturers' standings, Nissan's lead over Porsche narrows from four to three points, while Jaguar moves seven points closer to Stellantis.
