Tough year ahead of Formula E veteran: The e-Formula.news driver rating for the 2025 Mexico City E-Prix

Tim Neuhaus

Formula E had the Mexican fans celebrating at the race through the famous baseball stadium. After the eighth appearance of the racing series in the Mexican capital, our editorial team decided which drivers to celebrate - and which not. One of the most experienced drivers in particular came off anything but well.

Oliver Rowland impressed the team from e-Formula.news the most in Mexico. The Brit squeezed every last ounce of potential out of his Nissan and left the dominant Porsche drivers in his wake. For Lucas di Grassi, on the other hand, Mexico was probably more confirmation that he will spend another year at the back of the field.

After each round of Formula E Season 11, our editors award points on a scale between 1 and 10 for all drivers. These are then sorted according to their average "rating score". The rating is based exclusively on driving performance, not the potential of the car or external circumstances.

Oliver Rowland | Nissan | 9.5

It could have been debated in Sao Paulo whether Rowland was the fastest driver on the track. This time in Mexico, however, no technical offence got in his way and he can rightly crown himself the winner. In qualifying he made it through to the semi-finals, and in the race he put the Porsche under ironclad pressure until he was able to make the most of his attack mode to win the race. The Briton is once again flawless and one wonders: where does he get the performance from when his team-mate doesn't even finish in the top 10?

Antonio Felix da Costa | TAG Heuer Porsche | 9.0

Antonio Felix da Costa finishes second, as he did in Brazil. If he had put in such a performance at the start of last year's season, he would probably have been world champion. Now, however, he has put himself in a position to play an important role in the title fight and leads the drivers' championship by twelve points. He lost out to Wehrlein in qualifying, but performed slightly better in the race. The Porsche drivers are on an equal footing and have been the top team in the eleventh Formula E season so far!

Pascal Wehrlein | TAG Heuer Porsche | 9.0

No one is as fast at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez as Pascal Wehrlein, which he proved once again with his fourth pole position on this track. Although he was unable to take the win across the finish line, his third place brought him a solid haul of points. Strategically, the German seemed to have less luck in Mexico and kept slipping out of the top three, but his sheer pace was still enough to make up the lost ground. However, both Porsches bared their teeth at Rowland.

Flop of the E-Prix: Lucas di Grassi | Lola Yamaha ABT | 3.5

Once again, there were no points for Lucas di Grassi and Lola Yamaha Abt. After spending the last two seasons at the back of the field, the Brazilian was no doubt hoping for a break with the new manufacturer Lola Yamaha. But he will have to wait even longer for this. The pace is weak and the strategy was completely miscalculated, meaning that di Grassi was not even able to use both attack modes and ended up with a 27 seconds penalty.

Other than that, di Grassi's race was unspectacular. He was always in step with his young team-mate Zane Maloney and was unable to show off his driving talent. This is certainly not the standard for the champion of season 3 and the dominator of some Formula E statistics. The question is whether he will have the patience to drive for the slowest teams for much longer.

Decisive in the event of a tie: higher individual score in the driver rating. Decisive in case of identical points: better race result
