Wehrlein was almost perfect, even by the ratings! – The e-Formel.de driver ratings for the 2026 Shanghai E-Prix

Changeable weather and the Shanghai International Circuit proved to be a winning combination for the second year running. Not only did we see a virtually unstoppable Pascal Wehrlein fight his way back to the top of the World Championship standings, but we also witnessed Lucas di Grassi’s miraculous victory, which has now put the icing on the cake of his remarkable career. In our ratings, however, he narrowly missed out on the top three!

After every race of the Formula E Season 12, our editors award points on a scale of 1 to 10 to all drivers. They are then ranked according to their average ‘rating score’. The ranking is based solely on driving performance, not the car’s potential or external circumstances.

Pascal Wehrlein | Porsche | 9.8

Following the Berlin E-Prix, Wehrlein had a run of results without scoring any points and lost a fair bit of ground in the battle for the World Championship. However, the Porsche driver could hardly have made a more dominant comeback than he did in Shanghai. On Saturday, he enjoyed a perfect day, securing pole position and winning the race. On Sunday, Wehrlein was also on course for victory for a long time, but on a drying track, without taking a gamble on tyre pressure, he had no chance of taking first place. The Season 10 World Champion’s weekend came within a hair’s breadth of perfection. The only thing one could hold against him was a poor qualifying semi-final against Felipe Drugovich on Sunday.

Felipe Drugovich | Andretti | 8.7

Andretti and Felipe Drugovich are currently on a roll. One brilliant result follows another. There is now no trace of the Brazilian’s difficulties at the start of the season. By securing pole position, Drugovich has reached the next milestone in his still-young Formula E career. Even though it wasn’t quite enough for a podium finish in the end, fourth and sixth places were a more than solid haul of points for him and the team!

Jean-Eric Vergne | Citroën Racing | 8.5

The two-time Formula E champion was finally back on the podium in Shanghai! Together with Lucas di Grassi, he provided what were arguably the best post-race photos seen in a long time in the Parc Ferme. After some initial frustration, he pulled off a perfect tyre pressure strategy, and had already secured plenty of vital points the day before with a sixth-place finish. It will do him good to now reap some rewards for his hard work with Citroën Racing, given that the start of the season was a nightmare for the Frenchman.

E-Prix flop: Norman Nato | Nissan | 4.2

Norman Nato simply cannot get going in his second spell with Nissan. Almost all race weekends so far have been underwhelming, and Shanghai was no exception. Admittedly, the Frenchman hasn’t had much luck this season either, but a mere eleven points in the overall standings after 13 races is simply far too few. In China, Nato failed to offer any glimmer of hope and, together with Nissan, finds himself in the midst of a deep crisis.
