What's wrong with Nyck de Vries? The e-Formula.news driver rating for the 2026 Jeddah E-Prix

FIA Formula E
The first double-header of Season 12 is behind us. Jeddah on the Red Sea hosted Formula E on the Corniche Circuit. Only one driver impressed in both races, but was not allowed to crown himself the winner. Unlike Edoardo Mortara, both Pascal Wehrlein and Antonio Felix da Costa managed to win one of the two races. Nyck de Vries, on the other hand, experienced another low point in almost every session. The Dutchman is deep in a form hole.
After each round of Formula E Season 12, our editors award points on a scale between 1 and 10 for all drivers. They are then sorted according to their average "rating score". The rating is based exclusively on driving performance, not the potential of the car or external circumstances.
Edoardo Mortara | Mahindra Racing | 9.3
In Jeddah, Mortara initially looked unbeatable on both days. He took pole position in both races of the weekend, an absolute rarity in Formula E. In the race, however, he was unable to carry this starting position over the distance. In the first race, a problem right at the start ruined his chances of victory, in the second it was an inadequate strategy to compete for the win. With a second and a fourth place, he was nevertheless the most successful driver in Jeddah!
Antonio Felix da Costa | Jaguar TCS Racing | 8.5
It was finally a successful weekend for Felix da Costa, without the seemingly omnipresent bad luck. In the first race, he secured a solid result with fifth place and important points. In the second race, the Portuguese driver managed to win for the first time in his new team. It was a difficult start to the season for him and Jaguar TCS Racing. However, this victory will now have eliminated the last doubts.
Pascal Wehrlein | Porsche | 8.2
For a long time in qualifying, he seemed to be the only driver on a par with Mortara, at least on Friday. Although it wasn't enough for pole position, he drove away from everyone in the race. The former world champion pulled out such a big lead that he was out of reach for the other drivers - a masterstroke by Wehrlein and Porsche! In the second race, the pace was gone. A weak qualifying and 8th place after a chase to catch up were less than expected.
Flop of the E-Prix: Nyck de Vries | Mahindra Racing | 3.0
Fifth place last time out in Miami was a real ray of hope for Nyck de Vries after a disastrous start to the season. Unfortunately, this brief high was then forgotten in Jeddah. Technical problems and a subsequent 60-place grid penalty spoilt both E-Prix for the Dutchman. What you have to give de Vries credit for, however, is his disastrous pace in qualifying. Team-mate Mortara drove around everyone's ears, while de Vries failed twice in the duels and only finished ninth in his group on Saturday. More must be possible!
