First ever double header in Monaco, the second ever Pit Boost, and then the new all-wheel drive! Formula E fans can look forward to an eventful Monaco E-Prix next weekend. Read on to find out what the drivers and teams expect from the two races.

The new Pit Boost will be used for the second time this season in the first race on Saturday. This means that all drivers will have to pit once for a fast charging stop, which will shake up the field and require a well-prepared strategy - or two, to be precise. This is because the second Monaco race on Sunday will again take place without a Pit Boost - with the same 29 race laps.

"With the Pit Boost returning in race 1, I think we will see two very different races," predicts Kiro COO Russell O'Hagan. His driver Dan Ticktum has an idea of what is important: "In the first race on Saturday, qualifying will be very important, and on Sunday I think we will see more of a peloton-style race." After all, the drivers have to make up the ten per cent extra energy from the Pit Boost just by driving economically.

Pit Boost & Attack Mode likely to have a greater impact

Nissan team principal Tommaso Volpe also expects Pit Boost "to play a bigger role than in Jeddah, as overtaking manoeuvres will be more difficult in Monaco". This could be counteracted by the significantly stronger Attack Mode with all-wheel drive this season. "We are curious to see what effect the all-wheel drive will have in Monaco", says Porsche team principal Florian Modlinger. "Compared to other circuits, it could make a much bigger difference here."

On Sunday, energy saving will play a major role and is likely to lead to significantly more "easy" overtaking again. So are we in for the next Formula E chaos race? World champion Pascal Wehrlein puts it this way: "In the race, a bit of luck is needed in addition to strategy, because good pace alone is not enough due to the narrowness of the track." Entertainment should be provided in any case.

Excitement for "Monaco double"

In any case, the anticipation for the "Monaco double" is great in the paddock. "I am really looking forward to taking part in the first double header in the history of Formula E in Monaco", says Jake Hughes, who is eagerly awaiting the home race for his new team Maserati MSG. "It's a fantastic circuit - the more you drive it, the better I think it gets. So I will really enjoy the extra race this weekend."

His team-mate Stoffel Vandoorne, who has already won in Monaco, agrees: "This year we have two chances - one with Pit Boost and the second more as a classic race. It will be a very strategic race weekend, especially with the Pit Boost on Saturday."

The entire paddock is talking about the "best race on the Formula E calendar", so everything is set for an exciting race weekend in Monaco. The first free practice session will take place on Saturday morning at 7.30 am, with both races scheduled for 3 pm (CEST).
