Berlin E-Prix: No solution in sight for Formula E date conflict with WEC
Tobias Wirtz
The clash of dates between the Berlin E-Prix and the World Endurance Championship (WEC) race in Spa-Francorchamps on Saturday 11 May 2024 cannot be avoided after all: Neither for the race in Belgium nor for the double header in the German capital could an alternative date be found. This is reported by the colleagues of The Race. This means that several teams in both racing series are facing problems.
While Porsche driver Antonio Felix da Costa and DS Penske duo Stoffel Vandoorne and Jean-Eric Vergne have to prioritise Formula E over WEC racing, the situation is the other way around for the two Envision drivers: Both Sebastien Buemi (Toyota) and Robin Frijns (BMW) are said to have to contractually prioritise their WEC team, leaving the reigning Formula E Team World Champion without its two regular drivers.
Possible replacement drivers have not yet been announced. Jack Aitken, who drove the Envision car in the rookie test in Berlin and in the "zero free practice" in Rome this year, seems quite likely.
