Sam Bird will return to the McLaren cockpit at the Shanghai E-Prix of Formula E next weekend (25 and 26 May). The team officially confirmed this on Monday evening. Bird had injured his hand in an accident in Monaco and missed the race in the Principality as well as the two rounds in Berlin. Taylor Barnard, who stepped in very successfully, will therefore make way for the veteran again and can pursue his regular racing commitments in Formula 2.
"We're very pleased to have Sam back in the car for the Shanghai E-Prix," says McLaren team principal Ian James. "Sam has shown an impressive dedication to his recovery and, after a successful operation, he has been able to complete his normal simulator sessions. As a result, both Sam and the team are confident he is fighting fit for the race in Shanghai. We are looking forward to seeing Sam back on track."
