Formula E in Berlin: 2nd free practice cancelled due to rain!
Timo Pape
As announced by Formula E race control shortly before 9 a.m. on Saturday, there will be no second free practice session at the Berlin E-Prix. The session had to be cancelled due to persistent rain. It was already the third session this season to be affected by too much water on the track.
It had been raining on and off throughout the night in Berlin. It started again at around 8:30 a.m. There was a lot of water on the track, making driving impossible. The race director sent the safety car onto the track to monitor the conditions. Sweeper vehicles also drove onto the track to clear away the water. As Formula E does not have rain tyres that would prevent aquaplaning, a regular session was impossible.

It was already the third session this season that could not take place as planned due to rain. In Tokyo, qualifying was literally washed out. Two weeks later in Shanghai, the duel phase of qualifying was cancelled. This means that the first session on Saturday in Berlin is expected to be qualifying at 11:20 a.m. - weather permitting.
