Formula E in London: Porsche pays tribute to legendary Le Mans winners with special livery

Porsche will contest the Formula E season finale in London with a new special livery. To mark the end of its Formula E campaign during the "75 Years of Porsche Motorsport" anniversary year, the two Porsche 99X Electric cars of Pascal Wehrlein and Nico Müller will feature a white-and-blue retro look inspired by some of Porsche's most successful racing cars of the 1980s. It is already the Formula E team's third special livery of the season.

At the Mexico City E-Prix, Porsche's design paid tribute to the 550 Spyder that took a class victory in the 1954 Carrera Panamericana. In Berlin, Wehrlein and Müller then raced with a modern interpretation of the legendary "Pink Pig" livery of the Porsche 917/20 that competed in the 1971 24 Hours of Le Mans.

For London, Porsche has drawn on the colours and designs of several successful racing cars from the 1980s. These include the Porsche 959, which won the Paris-Dakar Rally in 1986. On the circuit, the Porsche 956 and Porsche 962 C provided the main inspiration. The white-and-blue Group C sports prototypes each claimed overall victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans twice: in 1982 and 1983, and in 1986 and 1987 respectively.
