Formula E in Mexico City: the qualifying groups at a glance
Tim Neuhaus
The second qualifying session of the season is coming up. The Formula E qualifying format will remain the same in 2026 and the drivers will compete against each other in two groups before the duel phase. The current world championship leader and pole-sitter from the last race, Jake Dennis, will start in Group A, while in Group B, the theoretically fastest driver from Sao Paulo, Pascal Wehrlein and reigning world champion Oliver Rowland, among others, will be battling it out for a place in the duel stage.
The drivers in the odd-numbered championship positions will start in Group A, while the drivers in the even-numbered positions will start in Group B. The aim here is to make it into the top four positions of the group, as this is the only way to reach the duel stage. Here, two drivers compete against each other in the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final, battling for pole position and the first three championship points of the race day.
