German round also without WRX, Nils Andersson is RX2e champion 2023

The premier class of rallycross - the WRX - was again unable to hold a session at the race weekend in Germany. The reason for this was still ongoing investigations after the fire that broke out during the race at Lydden Hill. The electric headliner was thus once again the RX2e, which held its season finale at the Estering in Buxtehude. With Tommi Hallmann taking victory, KMS driver Nils Andersson crowned himself the RX2e champion 2023. He may thus compete in the coming season with a wild card in the WRX.
Guest starter Tommi Hallmann showed the same strong form as in his first race in Great Britain, which he had also won. Except for one "heat", he won all sessions and did not let the title fight going on behind him disturb him in the final. He won the start twice against Isak Sjökvist, as the race had been restarted after Filip Thoren rolled over in the first corner.
By driving through turn 1 on the inside line each time, he forced Sjökvist onto the outside lane, which was obviously a disadvantage for the Swede. So he had to also let Andersson pass on the inside. Even though Sjökvist drove several fastest laps after that, he could not find a way past his compatriot, for whom 2nd place was enough to win the title. WRX drivers Niclas Grönholm and Klara Andersson strengthened the RX2e field this time around, finishing 4th and 5th in the final.
In contrast to the races in Great Britain and Belgium, the World RX race at the Estering was not cancelled, but postponed. "It's difficult times right now, but we'll get through it," said a spokesman for the series when asked by e-Formula.news. However, he did not yet want to answer the question of when things would continue for the RX1e. Until the next race in South Africa, there are still more than one and a half months in which the electric series can clarify the cause of the fire and possibly repeat the run at the Estering.
