Sandra Gomez and Jorge Zaragoza have won the first race of the FIM E-Xplorer World Cup, which was newly founded this season. Against seven other mixed teams, the Spaniards prevailed in the debut of the new off-road bike series in Barcelona. The event was broadcast live on TikTok.

In E-Xplorer World Cup, the teams have to complete a specially designed off-road race track which is about half a kilometer long. Both riders of a team - one male and one female - must solve a lap each. After the first driver has reached the finish, the starting gate opens again ror rider number 2 to take up the race.

In qualifying, teams initially have ten minutes to set the fastest overall time together. Gomez and Zaragoza, competing for the recently formed Japanese team MIE Racing, kept a "clean sweep" throughout the first day of racing.

They first set the fastest time in the qualifying session. In the quarterfinals that followed, they met the eighth-placed Flairriders EMX team in a knockout duel. The runners-up in qualifying dueled with the seventh fastest team and so on. In the semifinals, Gomez and Zaragoza faced EM Factory Team's Christophe Bruand and Marine Lemonine, against whom they won.

Gomez and Zaragoza prevailed in the final either - they with an emphatic 2-0 victory. The duel for 3rd place was won by the PCR-e Performance Factory Sur Ron team, represented by Sam Winterburn and Alex Gamboa.

The next race of the FIM E-Xplorer World Cup will take place on June 24 in Crans-Montana - it's quite possible that there will still be snow on the nearly 2,200-meter glacier then.
