Marrakech hosted the first E-Prix on African soil in 2016. For the second round of the 2016/17 season, Formula E competed as an official partner of the international climate summit COP22, which was held in the Moroccan metropolis from November 7 to 18. In the following years, the electric series made repeated guest appearances in Marrakech, although the semi-permanent racetrack, contrary to original plans, only returned to the calendar as an alternate venue in part after the fact.
Formula E races in Marrakech on the temporary road course "Circuit International Automobile Moulay el Hassan," which once also hosted the WTCC touring car championship. The circuit is one of the longest in Formula E and rather untypical for the series because of its long straights. Nevertheless, Marrakech has already delivered numerous top-class races.
