In contrast to DS Performance, NextEV is also relying on a twin-engine solution for its powertrain for season three, the NextEV 700R. Manufacturer Omnigear reworked last year's power unit together with Magalec Propulsion and created a drivetrain consisting of two "pancake motors." This eliminates the need for a transmission, which saves weight. While the team still competed with the support of China Racing and Campos Racing in season two, the racing team is fully owned by the Chinese car constructor NextEV from season three.
