Punta del Este

Punta del Este was, in terms of location, one of the most impressive tracks on the Formula E racing calendar. The chicane-filled circuit on the southern tip of Uruguay ran along the Rambla Lorenzo Batlle Pacheco directly along the beach to the northeast and back again in parallel on the same road.

The proximity to the sea and the associated wind conditions meant that new sand was constantly being blown onto the track, lowering the grip level. Punta del Este is also referred to as the "Monaco of South America" because the small town (only slightly more than 10,000 inhabitants) has increasingly become a center of attraction for South American celebrities in recent years. The landmark of Punta del Este is the stone sculpture "Los Dedos" (the fingers) - a good five meters wide and three meters high hand that rises from the beach.

After the second season, Punta del Este initially disappeared from the race calendar. However, after it became clear at the end of 2017 that the planned Sao Paulo E-Prix in March 2018 would be postponed until 2019, the coastal city stepped in again at short notice for the fourth Formula E season. A field outside the city also hosted the 2022 Extreme E Energy X Prix.
