At a large-scale launch event at Santiago's O'Higgins Park on October 12, 2017, Formula E unveiled the track layout for the premiere e-prix in Chile on February 3, 2018. Santiago-born former race car driver Eliseo Salazar piloted the SRT_01E through the streets of his homeland. Together with Chilean President Michelle Bachelet as well as Alberto Longo (co-founder of Formula E), Salazar presented the future route in front of the Palacio de la Moneda. The title sponsor of the 2018 Santiago Formula E race was Chilean mining company Antofagasta Minerals.

After just one race on the original street circuit in Santiago, Formula E moved the course to O'Higgins Park, which is home to an amusement park, among other things. The high-speed track, on which the electric series competed for two years, provided spectacular races and risky overtaking manoeuvres.
