The coast of Senegal hosted the second Extreme E race in May 2021. Lac Rose, near the capital Dakar, is bright pink due to Dunaliella salina bacteria attracted to the lake's salinity. The bacteria produce a red pigment to absorb sunlight, giving the lake its unique color.
