With 6.8 million inhabitants and another 7.7 million people in the metropolitan area, Hyderabad is India's fourth largest city after Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore. Founded in 1590, it grew into a metropolis thanks to the pearl industry and assumed important political roles in the following centuries. Today it is the joint capital of the states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh in the northern part of southern India.

The majority of Hyderabad's inhabitants are Hindu or Muslim. The religions also shape the cityscape: Among the most important sights is the 56-meter-high Arch of Triumph in the city center, with a mosque on its upper floor. The Formula E track, which was used for the first time in 2023, is located on the shores of Hussain Sagar Lake. The lake was artificially created around 400 years ago and resembles the shape of a heart on satellite images.

Following a change in local politics at the end of 2023, the future of the Hyderabad E-Prix is currently more than questionable.
