Daniel Abt has been racing in Formula E since the first season (2014/15). For a long time, the German was overshadowed by his experienced teammate Lucas di Grassi, although he flashed his talent in 2015 with pole position in Long Beach and third place in Miami in the very first year. However, the big breakthrough for the driver from Kempten didn't come until the fourth season: In Mexico, Abt celebrated his first victory - as the youngest E-Prix winner in Formula E history at the time (25 years, 91 days). A little later, at his home race in Berlin, he scored the electric series' first "clean sweep" (pole position, victory, fastest lap, led every lap).

On May 26, 2020, Audi Sport surprisingly ended the cooperation with its regular driver, which made high waves due to the curious antecedents: Abt had not contested the virtual race of the "Race at Home Challenge" in Berlin-Tempelhof on May 23 himself, but had simracer Lorenz Hörzing drive his vehicle. The following Sunday, Formula E confirmed the attempted cheating, retroactively excluded Abt from the classification and obliged him to make a "voluntary" donation of 10,000 euros to a charitable organization of his choice. This was finally followed two days later by his suspension by his employer Audi.

The end of his Formula E career was not the ejection from Audi, however, because just a few weeks later the Chinese racing team Nio 333 surprisingly signed the German for the remaining six races of the 2019/20 season in Berlin-Tempelhof. After the end of the season, Abt hung up his racing gloves for the time being and switched to the ran racing TV team as a co-commentator and expert, where he has been commentating on Formula E races until the end of Season 9.

Before his time in Formula E, Daniel Abt was champion in the ADAC Formula Masters in 2009 and runner-up in German Formula 3 the following year. In 2012, the Kempten native took the runner-up championship in the GP3 series. Abt is particularly active on social media, where he focuses primarily on his YouTube channel. Abt also promotes his own fashion line.
