Nick Cassidy made his debut in formula racing in 2008. Following victories in various junior categories in his native New Zealand, he won the overall Toyota Racing Series title in 2012 and 2013. The Japanese Formula 3 title followed in 2015, and the following year Cassidy competed in Super GT as well as the European Formula 3 Championship. In 2019, the Kiwi won the Japanese Super Formula championship, and later drove in the DTM championship.

Cassidy first came into contact with Formula E at the 2020 rookie test in Marrakesh, when he got into the car for Virgin Racing and gained his first experience in the electric race car. Even then, he attracted attention with excellent lap times. For the 2021 season, Virgin finally took him on as a regular driver alongside Robin Frijns. In 2022 he remained with the team, which had since been renamed Envision Racing. With them, he celebrated his first win in the racing series at the New York City E-Prix. In 2023, he was runner-up in Formula E, after which Jaguar's factory team took him on for the 2024 season.
