Oliver Rowland was runner-up in the Formula Renault Eurocup in 2013. In 2014 and 2015, he competed in Formula Renault 3.5 and secured the championship in his second year. In addition, the Briton raced in GP2 in 2015. He made his Formula E debut at the 2015 Punta del Este E-Prix (Season 2) as a one-off substitute for the injured Nick Heidfeld at Mahindra Racing.
After a third-place finish in the 2017 FIA Formula 2 Championship for DAMS, Rowland was eventually signed by Nissan e.dams for the 2018/19 Formula E season to replace Alexander Albon, who had left the team for a chance in Formula 1. Rowland impressed with three pole positions in his first full season and was thus awarded a Formula E contract for the coming year. He celebrated his first victory in the electric racing series at the 2020 Berlin E-Prix. In 2022 and 2023, Rowland has again competed for Mahindra before moving back to Nissan before the 2024 season.
This is where he had his strongest Formula E seasons to date: with two race wins and five further podium finishes, he finished fourth in the world championship in 2024/25, before becoming world champion the following season with four race wins.
