After winning several karting series, including the U18 World Karting Championship, Jake Dennis competed in formula racing from 2011. Here, the Briton won the InterSteps Championship title at his first attempt. The following year he secured the title in the Northern European Formula Renault 2.0. In 2015, Dennis finished third in the Formula 3 European Championship behind Felix Rosenqvist and Antonio Giovinazzi. He subsequently competed in the GP3 Series and finished fourth overall.

In 2017, Dennis switched to GT racing. In 2019, he took to the wheel for R-Motorsport Aston Martin in the DTM, scoring a sixth-place finish, the best result of the season for an Aston Martin driver. In the same year, he scored pole position at the Bathurst 12 Hours and finished second in the race.

In 2018, he also completed test drives for the Red Bull Racing Formula 1 team, for which he to this day regularly works as a simulator and development driver.

In October 2020, BMW Andretti i Motorsport confirmed Dennis as a Formula E regular driver for the 2021 season alongside Maximilian Günther. In his rookie season, he immediately finished third overall and had a chance of winning the title until the very end. Since 2022, he has been competing for Andretti, the former BMW factory team. In 2023, he secured the world championship title with 11 podium finishes in 16 races.
