David Beckmann was announced as a reserve and simulator driver for Avalanche Andretti on February 11, 2022. The driver from Iserlohn had fought his way through various junior categories in the years before, including FIA Formula 2 in the 2021 season.

Since 2023, he has also been a test and reserve driver for the Porsche works team in Formula E. In addition, he contested the season opener of the World Endurance Championship for Jota Sport in the LMP2 category, where he won at first attempt.

During the Formula E rookie test in Berlin, Beckmann sat at the wheel of the works Porsche for the first time in an official session. For his racing debut at the 2023 Jakarta E-Prix, however, he stood in for regular Andretti driver Andre Lotterer, but the two races were not very successful, so he remained a test and reserve driver for Porsche for the following year.

In 2024/25, he competed for a season as a regular driver for Cupra Kiro, but was unable to keep up with his teammate Dan Ticktum. While the Briton even celebrated his first Formula E victory at the Jakarta E-Prix, Beckmann finished the season with a single point, which he scored at the season finale in London. For the 2025/26 season, he returned to Porsche as a reserve driver and also provides expert support for the German broadcaster DF1's TV coverage.
